Tennis champ Ash Barty gives rare insight into life with her two kids
Ash Barty's toddler son has made an unexpected sporting choice that could see another professional athlete emerge from the family.
Tennis legend Ash Barty’s two-year-old son has made a surprising choice between either following in the footsteps of his mother or his professional golfer father.
In a rare interview since she retired as world number 1 in March 2022, Barty reveals the happiness she has found in creating a family.
She married Garry Kissick in July 2022 and the couple have two children together, son Hayden and baby daughter Jordan, five months.
“Both my husband and I are very grateful that we’ve got two happy and healthy kids that have brought so much joy and chaos into our lives,” the 29-year-old told Stellar.
“It’s about appreciating the little things, and I’m certainly able to enjoy those little things each and every day. I’m very lucky.”
It is golf rather than tennis that Hayden has gravitated towards, with his parents enjoying watching their son’s current obsession with the game – complete with his own set of pint-sized golf clubs – and the potential of having yet another professional golfer in the family.
“He’s golf-mad,” Barty shares.
“Well, he’s sport-mad. He’s such an outdoors kid – like I was, like a lot of Queensland kids are.”
Barty, who is an ambassador for suncare brand Banana Boat, is looking forward to spending Christmas together - the first as a family of four.
“Hayden is at a great age now. He understands the concept and loves it.
“He’s got four older cousins as well who help him along the way. It’s nice to just have a pretty quiet day, with the kids getting their presents.”
“Then we get set for the Boxing Day Test. We all sit down and watch the cricket. That’s my dream Christmas.”
