DARIA Gavrilova has advanced to the semi-finals of the Sydney International with a straight sets win over Sam Stosur and after Garbine Muguruza withdrew from the tournament, while Bernard Tomic has won his first Australian Open qualifying match.

The Demon, Alex De Minaur, is through to the quarterfinals of the Sydney International after opponent Damir Džumhur retired hurt at 6-2 3-0. Aussie Sam Groth’s singles career officially came to an end with a 6-4 3-6 7-6(3) loss in qualifying to Taylor Fritz.
