Nick Kyrgios’s Wimbledon upset win over Rafael Nadal extends the world number one’s shocking recent record at Wimbledon
NICK Kyrgios’s upset win over Rafael Nadal extends a rather embarrassing record for the world number one. But he doesn’t seem to think there’s a problem.
RAFAEL Nadal has a problem with Wimbledon.
That’s an odd thing to say, considering the Spaniard has won the tournament twice and finished as the runner-up three times.
It’s also undeniable, because for three years in a row, Nadal has been knocked out of Wimbledon by someone with a world ranking in the triple digits.
In 2012, it was Lukas Rosol (100). Last year, little-known Belgian Steve Darcis (135) took him down. And of course, this year he was beaten by Australian teenager Nick Kyrgios (144). You may have heard about that.

Since the start of the 2012 tournament, Nadal has won four Wimbledon matches and lost three. Before that period, he had won 35 for just five defeats.
If the world number one is worried about that stunning deterioration, he’s not willing to admit it publicly.
“I am satisfied with the way that I played this Wimbledon,” Nadal said after his defeat to Kyrgios this morning. “I think I competed well.
“Congratulations to him. For me, I’m going to go to the beach in Mallorca.”
Granted, an early beach holiday doesn’t sound too bad. And Nadal does have a decent excuse for two of his recent failures. In 2012 and 2013, he was struggling with knee injuries.
We’ll let you be the judge. Below, you’ll find the rundown on the supposed no hopers who have beaten Nadal in his last three Wimbledon appearances.
