Nick Kyrgios’ amazing forehand stuns commentators

NICK Kyrgios was struggling with each step.

Battling back pain, he laboured between every point against world No. 7 Tomas Berdych, lamenting: “I can’t move.”

After the fifth game of the first set, the Aussie called for the physio to work on his tight back.

In the sixth game, this happened...

Kyrgios bombed a 200km/h plus serve, setting up the easy putaway.

But instead, he opted to leap high and crush an 147km/h winner with a flamboyant aerial forehand at the top of the bounce.

You just don’t see that shot on the tennis court — let alone with a busted back — and the commentators lost it.

“What was that?” one of the ESPN2 broadcasters said. “You’ve got to time that right haven’t you.

“He does make you laugh when you watch him.

“It actually wasn’t necessary to do that ... but he is good to watch though.”

The commentators went on to describe Kyrgios as “Mr Box Office” and “pure entertainment from start to finish”, as he produced moments like this pirouette smash...

... This wonderful act of sportsmanship...

... And when he just needed a rest ...

The entertainment is sure to continue tonight, as the brash 20-year-old’s 6-4 6-4 defeat over Berdych set up a must see clash with Stan Wawrinka.

It will be the pair’s first meeting since their infamous clash in Montreal last August, when Kyrgios was widely lambasted for making crude sexual remarks concerning Wawrinka’s girlfriend Donna Vekic, a Croatian WTA professional.

Kyrgios was handed a suspended 28-day ban and $25,000 fine.

Wawrinka admitted that the two men are not close.

“He’s a tennis player, I’m a tennis player. We are not friends, for sure. We don’t go to dinner together. But there is nothing else,” said the Swiss.

Kyrgios, ranked 33rd and who won his maiden title in Marseille last weekend, isn’t expecting fireworks.

“Since the incident, I think we’ve both moved on,” said Kyrgios.

“We played on the same team in the IPTL (International Premier Tennis League). That was actually really good. I got to know him a little bit more.

“He played great there. He’s one of the best players in the world, no doubt.”

Kyrgios, who was injured during the Australian Open in January, has been going flat-out since returning last week.

“I wasn’t in the greatest shape, obviously. I think I got a bit of food poisoning last night,” he said.

Back trouble and food poisoning? Imagine if he was 100 per cent.
