Naomi Osaka reveals she’s pregnant, but fans puzzled by stark omission

The two-time Australian Open winner has revealed she’s pregnant, but tennis fans were puzzled by one major missing detail.

The past two winners of the Australian Open are pregnant.

In news that has stunned and delighted tennis fans, Naomi Osaka has revealed she will join Ash Barty in welcoming a baby to the world in 2023.

Osaka, who saluted at Melbourne Park in 2019 and 2021, shattered fans when she withdrew her name from this year’s event last week.

But now we know she had a very good reason.

The 25-year-old revealed she was expecting in an Instagram post on Thursday morning.

“I know that I have so much to look forward to in the future,” she wrote.

“One thing I’m looking forward to is for my kid to watch one of matches and tell someone, ‘that’s my mom’, haha.”

Osaka made the announcement on her Instagram.

But in a stark omission that left many fans puzzled, Osaka did not name the father of her child in her post.

Tennis.com is reporting it is her longtime boyfriend Cordae, but the rapper has not made any announcements of his own on Instagram or liked Osaka’s post.

It left many fans questioning “who is the baby’s father?” and “why aren’t they announcing it?”.

The former world number one last played in September last year when she withdrew from the second round of an event in Tokyo due to abdominal pain.

In her post, Osaka said she would be back playing in time to compete at the 2024 Australian Open.

Osaka’s withdrawal from the Australian Open came fresh on the heels of Venus Williams pulling the pin and in the biggest blow to the event, the world’s number one male player Carlos Alcaraz pulling out due to injury.

“I picked up an injury through a chance, unnatural movement in training,” the 19-year-old Spaniard wrote on his Twitter account.

“I’d worked so hard to get to my best level for Australia but unfortunately I won’t be able to play,” the world’s top-ranked player added.

“It’s tough, but I have to be optimistic, recover and look forward. We’ll see you at the Australian Open in 2024.”

The Australian Open’s official Twitter account wrote in response: “We’re sorry we won’t be seeing you this year @carlosalcaraz Wishing you a swift recovery. See you back on court soon.”
