Tennis: Bernard Tomic's career courting controversy

Bernard Tomic has crashed out in the first round of qualifying for the French Open after falling at the hands of a 16-year-old prodigy.

The Aussie was overrun by French wildcard entry Arthur Fils after taking the first set.

Playing in his first ATP Tour-level match, world No. 1034 Fils came from behind to win 6-7 7-6 6-3 in a two-hour battle.

Tennis commentators noticed a bizarre exchange at the end of the second set where Tomic appeared to be lost on the process of serving procedures.

His attention didn’t appear to get any better from there and he was knocked out after going down a break of serve in the third set.

The former world No. 17 has now failed to make it past the first round at Roland Garros since 2016.

He has lost seven of the 11 matches he has played since losing in the second round of the Australian Open in February.
