Legends, celebrities, the Prime Minister and Rafael Nadal react to Nick Kyrgios’ shock Wimbledon win
LEGENDS, celebrities, prime ministers and Rafael Nadal react to Kyrgios’ Wimbledon win. Not even his mum thought he’d do it.
NOT even Nick Kyrgios’ own mother gave him a chance against Rafael Nadal, which is understandable. His Wimbledon triumph was one of the greatest upsets of all time.
Here’s how the world reacted.
THE MAN HIMSELF
Even Kyrgios was surprised at how well he played.
“I was in a bit of zone out there, I played some extraordinary tennis, I served at a really good level out there,” he said.
“I’m a normal kid like any 19-year-old who likes to play on his Xbox. The big stage is something I thrive on.
“Never did I think a week ago I was going to make the quarter-finals of Wimbledon in my first appearance.”
Have to do it all again tomorrow and I can't wait! First @Wimbledon & I'm in the last 8 club!! #HaveThat

HIS MUM
Kyrgios’ own mother didn’t think he could beat the world No. 1.
“My mum said in an interview she thought Rafa was too good ... that made me mad and spurred me on,” Kyrgios told the BBC.

Nick Kyrgios’ quarter-final match against world No. 9 Canadian Milos Raonic will start after midnight tonight AEST.
THE OPPONENT
The ever-gracious Rafael Nadal heaped praise on Kyrgios, conceding “he play better than me”.
“When you have an opponent that he decides to serve and to hit every ball very strong, you are in trouble,” Nadal said.
“I didn’t play really bad.”
Asked what the dual Wimbledon champion would be doing with his unexpected spare time, Nadal said: “Congratulations to him. For me, beach. For me, I going to go to the beach in Mallorca.”
THE LEGEND
John McEnroe came up with a massive call, saying, “We have found the next guy in the men’s game.”
“The last guy I saw like this was Boris Becker with no fear and believing that they can win this thing,” McEnroe said.
“You are watching someone who is going to be a big star in the future.”
