‘If he wants to do everything’: Naomi Osaka speaks on Nick Kyrgios speculation after viral post
Nick Kyrgios was at his very best to kick off his Indian Wells campaign as Naomi Osaka left the door ajar on a superstar team up.
Nick Kyrgios has had a red hot start to his Indian Wells campaign with a 6-4 6-0 win over 21-year-old Argentine Sebastian Baez in the first round of the tournament.
Kyrgios was at his destructive best, making short work of the World No. 60 and setting up a second round date with 32 seed Federico Delbonis.

It took a little over 70 minutes for Kyrgios to dispatch Baez, and the commentators were impressed by the Aussie.
“Mentally engaged, check. Technically sound, yes. A composed and complete effort for Kyrgios as he emerged with a straight sets win," one of the commentators said.
And Aussie star took to the camera to share a message with the world, writing “be positive” and a smiley face.
And Kyrgios gave a positive sign personally — and a scary sign for the rest of the tennis world — that he’s feel fresher than ever after taking time away from the sport during the Covid pandemic.
“Every time I play a match now, I don’t take it for granted,” he said via tennis.com.
“I was out for a fair chunk of the last couple years, and there’ve of course been a couple world issues that hit, so I don’t take anything for granted playing on this beautiful stadium at this beautiful event.
“I’m just in a different mindset. I kind of feel like I’m a bit younger mentally, I feel fresh again, and obviously I’m healthy again with my left knee. I feel like I’m playing some pretty good tennis.”
But a superstar doubles team up with Naomi Osaka appears to be hanging by a thread after the Japanese champion spoke to the speculation following an Instagram post last week.
Kyrgios shared a video of Osaka sitting and watching the Australia’s explosive weapon up close and personal, with fans salivating at the possibility of a dream team up.
“Quick LA session with @naomiosaka. Analysing my serve to find any small detail … Her hunger to learn was pretty epic to see from a champ like her,” Kyrgios wrote.
And fans were immediately calling for a team up.
Kyrgios has turned his hand at doubles at the Australian Open alongside good mate and Aussie star Thanasi Kokkinakis, with the “Special K’s” coming away with the title.
The pair will reconnect at Indian Wells in their first tournament since the grand slam victory.
However, after her first round win over Sloane Stephens, Osaka did leave the door slightly ajar, depending on how much work Kyrgios wants to do.
“If he wants to attempt to carry us, I’ll consider it,” Osaka said at Indian Wells following her first round singles victory over Sloane Stephens.
“”But I haven’t played doubles in years and I’m not quite great at it.
“I know he just won the Australian Open doubles title. Yeah, if he wants to do everything …”
Kyrgios has had some fun with some of the biggest names in tennis before, playing mixed doubles alongside Venus Williams at Wimbledon in 2021 before he had to pull out with an abdominal injury.
Osaka does have a soft spot for Kyrgios however, praising the Aussie during the Australian Open.
“I’m honestly feeling like now it’s not Australian Open if you don’t watch a night match of Kyrgios on John Cain (Arena),” the world No. 13 said.
“This guy’s literally always on that court. I thought his serve was awesome. I don’t think my serve percentage was as good as his, but it was really nice to see him back and having the crowd so hyped up.”
Kyrgios has been enjoying the sights and sounds in the US with his partner Costeen Hatzi, including sitting courtside at a Lakers game last week.
