Wimbledon has been left red faced over a series of embarrassing claims made about star players at the tournament.

Tennis’ most prestigious tournament has been left looking like an amateur operation this week with details on the grand slam’s official website leaving fans scratching their heads.

Baffling mistakes have been spotted across the official Wimbledon website this week — and the mystery has now been solved.

Tournament officials have been busted after an apparent move to outsource some of its website content production to an artificial intelligence agency.

The gamble on using non-human labour has blown up in the tournament’s face with many fans spotting some embarrassing stuff ups.

One claim that Aussie Alex de Minaur represents the UK has got plenty of people laughing.

With de Minaur rising to reach the top ten on the ATP Tour this year it is easy to see why Wimbledon would want to make de Minaur an honorary Pom.

It hasn’t gone unnoticed by fans that de Minaur’s partner Katie Boulter is the UK’s top female player.

Some Australian’s previously, tragically, embraced Belgian tennis legend Kim Clijsters as “Aussie Kim” because of her previous relationship with Lleyton Hewitt.

It turns out Wimbledon’s mistake with de Minaur’s nationality was thankfully nothing like the farce that surrounded Clijsters on Aussie soil.

Unfortunately, in the eyes of some, the fact the information came from cyber-sources is actually much worse.

Leading tennis journalist Ben Rothenberg wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Honestly offensive that the world’s richest tennis tournament is outsourcing writing jobs to s***ty AI”.

Among many mistakes spotted within the profiles of players on the site, former US Open champ Emma Raducanu was listed as Britain’s No. 1 player. She is actually the No. 3 ranked British woman on the WTA rankings.

Wimbledon is yet to make an official response to the public criticism.

De Minaur, meanwhile, will have bigger issues when he returns to the court on Saturday night against world No. 212 Frenchman Lucas Pouille.

If he is able to keep winning, de Minaur won’t come up against another seeded player until the quarterfinals, where he could play No. 2 seed Novak Djokovic.

The 25-year-old made headlines for making a quick bolt to see Boulter’s second round match on Friday morning (AEST) where the No. 29 seed was eliminated in a three-set epic by Harriet Dart.

De Minaur watched on from Boulter’s player box on Court 1 as she suffered a crushing meltdown late in the match before losing 8-10 in the third set tiebreak.
