Dylan Alcott makes history, goes viral for skolling a beer during US Open final
Dylan Alcott made tennis history today by achieving the most astonishing feat impossible — then followed it up with the perfect celebration.
Australian Dylan Alcott completed a remarkable wheelchair tennis Golden Slam on Monday (AEST) by capturing titles at the US Open.
Top seed Alcott defeated Dutchman Niels Vink 7-5 6-2 in 75 minutes in the quad singles wheelchair final, becoming the first man to win all four Grand Slams and Paralympic gold in the same year.

Alcott won his second consecutive Paralympics title in Tokyo after claiming titles at the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon earlier in the year.
“I can’t believe I just won the Golden Slam,” Alcott said following his win. “I used to hate myself so much, I hated my disability, I didn’t even want to be here any more.
“I found tennis and it changed and saved my life.
“Now I’ve become the only male ever in any form of tennis to win the Golden Slam which is pretty cool.
“To everybody at home, I love you. Hopefully this puts a smile on your face. Better times are around the horizon.
“To everybody in New York, I feel honoured and privileged to be out here on this court.
“I’ll going to be upfront, I don’t know whether I’ll be back here, so I really appreciate everything.
“Thanks for making a young, fat disabled kid with a really bad haircut, thanks for making his dreams come true because I can’t believe that I just did it.”
The party was only just beginning for Alcott. He was in the crowd to watch the men’s singles final between Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev and went viral for his all-Aussie celebration from the stands.
During a break in play, the 30-year-old poured a beer into his trophy and skolled it — much to the delight of everyone watching him on the big screen.
It wasn’t a surprise to see his antics spread like wildfire across the internet as a video of Alcott’s drinking exploits posted on the official US Open Twitter account quickly racked up more than 40,000 views.
British journalist Mike Dickson called Alcott an “Aussie legend”, tennis commentator Jose Morgado said it was “glorious” and veteran American sports writer Christopher Clarey tweeted: “Dylan Alcott. Oi, oi, oi!”

Speaking about the moment in his post-match press conference, Alcott added: “I saw I got a smile from Novak and Medvedev, which was nice.
“I wouldn’t want to be a beer in New York tonight, because you’re going to get destroyed. That’s for sure.”
Women’s wheelchair top seed Diede De Groot also completed her own Golden Slam by defeating Japan’s second-seeded Yui Kamiji 6-3 6-2 in 71 minutes in the US Open final, capturing her fourth consecutive title on the New York hardcourts.
In the wheelchair men’s final, Japanese top seed Shingo Kunieda defeated British second seed Alfie Hewett 6-1, 6-4 in 71 minutes.
