The ongoing feud between Australian funnyman Dave Hughes and Nick Kyrgios’ brother has taken an unexpected turn after Christos chirped at the radio host on social media.

Last week Hughes claimed Christos demanded $20,000 to partake in an interview on the comedian’s breakfast radio show.

While the reported claim left Hughes publicly laughing at the 32-year-old, Christos returned fire with a pointed Instagram post.

After 2Day FM chose to share behind the scenes negotiations on live radio, Christos got to have his say when he took aim at “s*** talkers”.

“You see the thing is, s**t talkers are always going to talk s**t from the sidelines. Because they don’t know what it’s like to be in the heat of the battle,” Christos posted on Wednesday.

“But at the end of the day, strong people have an even stronger sense of self worth … they don’t need approval from others.

“Remember your value is never based on the opinion of cheap people.”

Speaking on 2Day’s The Morning Crew, Hughes revealed he was tagged in a separate Instagram post on Monday, which echoed his earlier remarks.

“I was ready to let sleepy dogs lie, until yesterday when I go to my DMs and I’ve been tagged into a message from Nick Kyrgios’ brother,” Hughes said on Tuesday morning.

“He’s done an Instagram post, and it wasn’t specifically naming me, but it was about, ‘People will talk c**p and they’ve got no values’, sort of thing. And because he’s tagged me into it, I’ve seen it.”

Hughes then read out the messages exchanged with Christos on live radio, with co-hosts Erin Molan and Ed Kavalee giggling in the background.

This is how their private conversation played out.

Hughes: “Mate, it’s all a laugh, yeah. No hard feelings?”

Kyrgios: “I couldn’t care less, mate. But honestly, these guys got to stop reaching out and asking without having budget. These days $20k is the minimum, and it’s embarrassing to hear a show like yours doesn’t have that type of budget. It seems popular enough and should be making enough cash.”

Hughes: “We have nowhere near that budget! The debate over getting you $1k was fierce. Media is tight now, mate.”

Kyrgios: “Jesus, I pay my PA more a day.”

Hughes: “Good on you, good luck for the year ahead, mate.”

Molan was bemused by Kyrgios’ remarks: “He thinks we’re popular? What the hell? This is amazing. This has got to be one of those things where people are taking the mickey.”

Hughes laughed: “How much is his PA on? His PA’s pulling $140k a week, at least. That’s huge!”

The initial interview request came after Kyrgios appeared to bark towards Christos’ partner during his Australian Open victory over Spain’s Frederico Ferreira Silva last week.

“Tell your girlfriend to get out of my box,” he was heard saying.

Kyrgios was eventually knocked out by world No. 3 Dominic Thiem in the third round.
