Australian Open 2025 Day 1 live updates: Aussie bloodbath on day one of the Open
The 2025 Australian Open has got off to the worst possible start for the local contingent on a horror day for Aussie tennis.
The first day of the 2025 Australian Open is in the books and it hasn’t been a great day for the local contingent.
With bad weather forcing the rescheduling of Sydneysider Alexander Vukic’s opening round match, there were four Australians on court in singles on Sunday.
Sadly for the local fans, all four were beaten, with Daria Saville losing to Russian Anna Blinkova 1-6, 6-4, 7-5 in a match that ended around 12.24am AEDT on Monday.

Compatriots Li Tu, Omar Jasika and Adam Walton also bowed out in the opening round, the latter after giving up a two-set lead in a crushing five-set defeat.
Among the tournament favourites, two-time defending champion Aryna Sabalenka made a winning start, as did Chinese fifth seed Qinwen Zheng, men’s second seed Alexander Zverev and No. 6 seed Casper Ruud.
Olympic champion Zheng had the honour of playing the first point of the tournament on centre court when she faced Romania’s 110th-ranked Anca Todoni.
Zheng, who lost last year’s final to Sabalenka, saw off Romanian Anca Todoni 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 in a confident start to her campaign.
Drama has swirled around the tournament in the lead up to the event with Nick Kyrgios, Novak Djokovic and world No. 1 Jannik Sinner continuing to make headlines.
All three will be in action in a big day two of the tournament on Monday.
