Ash Barty’s $14k wedding ring dazzles at Newcombe Medal
Ash Barty may have played her last competitive tennis match in January but the three-time grand slam winner was crowned Australia’s best.
Ash Barty has once again been crowned the queen of Australian tennis, despite having wrapped up her career in January.
Barty won the Australian Open but went undefeated, also winning in Adelaide in the lead up, as well as the Adelaide doubles title alongside Storm Sanders.

It was believed to be a two-horse race between Barty and Nick Kyrgios for the Newcombe Medal but the retired 26-year-old Queenslander was handed her fifth win.
Kyrgios, who made the final of Wimbledon in singles and claimed the Australian Open doubles crown was less than thrilled by the result.
“No respect at all. I don’t give a f***,” he wrote on his Instagram story.
He also compared the tournament victories for the year (4-3 Kyrgios) and match wins (61-14 Kyrgios).
Barty has proven to be one of Australia’s most popular sportspeople, despite shocking the world with her retirement in March.
While she has been hounded by questions about whether she’ll play another sport or comeback to tennis, it’s been a big year as Barty became an author as well as getting married to long-term partner Garry Kissick in July.
Although Barty has been around, there was something about tennis’ night of nights that she sparkled just a little bit more with her wedding ring stealing the show.
Reportedly worth $14,000, Barty sparkled in black dress alongside her husband.
Looking happy and relaxed, Barty was a popular winner of the night’s main award.
“Looking back on this year, what I am most proud of is the people I was surrounded by — without them I am nothing,” she said.
“Thank you to everyone that gave this five-year-old the chance to play her dream out on centre court.
“I stand here very proudly knowing that I absolutely fulfilled every ounce that I could to this to this beautiful sport and it brought me so much more than I could have ever dreamed.
“It’s obviously an amazing way to cap off what has been an incredible journey.
“The journey of a lifetime, the journey of me chasing after my dreams and exploring what was possible out in the world.”
Barty was also able to pay back her mentor Evonne Goolagong Cawley when she awarded her the Spirit of Tennis award, having shared her Australian Open victory when Barty's idol awarded her the Daphne Akhurst Memorial Cup on Rod Laver Arena.
