Ash Barty has revealed she hopes to get married to her longtime partner Garry Kissick sometime this year.

After claiming the Australian Open title in dominant fashion last month, the 25-year-old has been enjoying some casual celebrations and family time in Queensland as she comes to terms with the victory.

Barty has enjoyed an incredible start to 2022 but her year is set to get even better, as she opened up on her plans to tie the knot.

The tennis star became engaged to Kissick late last year, with the loved-up couple sharing heartwarming photos on social media to announce the happy news.

Barty later revealed the engagement was very low-key and she said her wedding will be just the same — and she wouldn’t have it any other way.

“Hopefully it will be this year,’’ she told the Courier Mail of a potential wedding date.

“It will be very low-key, very small, pretty chill, for Garry and I just the people we love the most, people who have been impactful and important in our lives.

“My nieces and nephews will be front and centre, I wouldn’t live it down if they weren’t, they will be dress shopping before I will be.’’

The pair met in 2016 at the Brookwater Golf Club in Brisbane, where Kissick, who is an aspiring professional golfer, works as an irrigation technician.

The sporting duo immediately clicked and went public with their relationship in 2017 when they attended the John Newcombe Awards together.

The 30-year-old is a passionate Liverpool supporter and part of the PGA Trainee program.

He was in the stands cheering on Barty as she won at Melbourne Park and embraced her in a heartmelting moment after her Wimbledon win last year.

Barty is still coming down from the high from her Australian Open triumph and said it was special to have her family by her side to see her win her third grand slam.

“To be able to have both of my sisters, mum and dad, I think that is probably the first time they have seen a final of that magnitude anywhere in the world,’’ she said.

“To have them all together, probably nervously and anxiously waiting as I was, it was so much fun to be able to enjoy that with them and for them to experience everything that comes with it.

“It’s not just the tennis – the crowd was exceptional, it was like nothing I’ve played in front of ever in my life, and for them to feel that with me.

Barty is set to return to the court at the Indian Wells tournament in California next month, but she hinted she would like to spend more time at home this year after spending more than seven months on the road last year.

“I’m very much a homebody … that’s where I recharge and how I get my energy,’’ she said.

“Fingers crossed this year I’m able to come home more regularly and not be away for too long at one time.”
