The upload showed the duo standing side-by-side while looking into each other’s eyes, but it was a ring on the left hand of Boulter that stole the limelight.
Despite the image sending the tennis world rumour mill into overdrive with countless comments on the post all saying the same thing, Boulter was quick to shut down any speculation.
The world number 30 captioned the heartwarming upload: “Four years with you.
“Calm down not engaged (laughs). Just the only finger that ring fits.”
Interest in the couple peaked during the Australian Open when de Minaur was grilled during a post-match press conference about when he plans to propose to Boulter.
Comedian Ash Williams, affiliated with the “Get A Grip Tennis Podcast”, began his aggressive line of questioning by mentioning how Australian tennis hero Lleyton Hewitt proposed to his now-wife at the 2005 Australian Open.
Here is a transcript of the exchange:
Will we get a proposal to Katie after the AO?
De Minaur: Jeez. Putting me on the spot here. Yeah, it’s not on the cards just yet. Not ruling it out. For the time being, I’m going to try to focus on playing tennis and then we’ll think about the off-court activities.
If you win the AO?
De Minaur: It wouldn’t be a bad way to celebrate, let’s just say that.
Deal.
It wasn’t to be for the couple however with de Minaur’s Australian Open campaign falling down in the fourth round.
The Aussie, who now sits inside the top 10 on the ATP rankings, fell at the hands of Russian fifth seed Andrey Rublev 6-4, 6-7, 6-7, 6-3, 6-0.
The couple however quickly put that behind them as they secured titles within a matter of hours of each other.
De Minaur claimed his second ATP 500 tournament at the Mexican Open in Acapulco before Boulter won the San Diego Open title the next day.
The couple joined the likes of former couples Hewitt and Kim Clijsters (2003) and Jimmy Connors and Chris Evert (1974) in lifting trophies on the same weekend.
