Our experts give you an early shot at finding a winner this weekend.

Saturday: ROSEHILL (10 races, start 12.15pm), MORNINGTON (9 races, 12.30pm), DOOMBEN (9 races, 12.58pm), MORPHETTVILLE PARKS (9 races, 12.42pm), ASCOT (9 races, 3.22pm). Friday night: THE VALLEY (8 races, 6.15pm) All times EDT

ROSEHILL

STEPHEN BRASSEL (National Racing Editor)

MOUNT POPA (Race 3, No.4 – $3.20)

Was outstanding last autumn and ready to go again this time around after two runs back from a spell peaking late last time.

Best value: JALMARI (Race 4, No.7 – $17)

MITCH COHEN (Racenet)

TAKSU (Race 10 No.8 – $2.80)

Quirky six-year-old who has put his best foot forward this preparation on heavy tracks and should meet similar conditions on Saturday to what he faced last start when winning at the same venue. With Tyler Schiller’s claim he still gets in terrific at the weights with an ideal inside draw.

Value bet: TAMPERING (Race 1 No. 1)

JETT HATTON (Racenet)

GRAVINA (Race 9, No.13 – $3.50)

Went great last time out behind subsequent Group 1 winner Shelby Sixtysix when turning in a slick last 400m sectional and strikes an easier contest. Gets his favourable wet conditions again and steps back out to 1200m – a distance which he’s won four of seven at. Looks hard to beat.

Value bet: GIN MARTINI (Race 8, No.9 – $51)

ADAM SHERRY (Sportsman)

MOUNT POPA (Race 3, No.4 – $3.20)

Wasn’t disgraced behind Verry Elleegant over 1600m in the Group 1 Chipping Norton first-up before a close second to wet track specialist Stockman over 2000m here last start. Ready to peak third-up.

Value bet: PROMISE OF SUCCESS (Race 5, No.10 – $5.50)

MORNINGTON

BRAD WATERS (Racenet)

STARRY LEGEND (Race 3, No.5 – $4)

He’s unbeaten first-up and was too good when resuming at Mornington last time in. He drops in class for his spring runs and will be awfully hard to beat.

Value bet: SHARP RESPONSE (Race 8, No.5 – $9.50)

CHRIS VERNUCCIO (Racing News Editor)

ANCIENT GIRL (Race 8, No.12 – $2.50)

Went to Adelaide for a soft win after finishing within one length of Barb Raider in the Group 3 Vanity. The Mornington circuit will be to her liking.

Value bet: SUPERIUM (Race 7, No.5 – $5)

GLENN McFARLANE (Herald Sun)

YAKI ISHI (Race 2, No.1 – $2.10)

Showed great fight to stick on for a placing at Flemington and looks suited here.

Best value: LA MEXICANA (Race 7, No.6 – $6.50)

SIMON MOY (NewsRacing)

SAVANNAH CLOUD (Race 9, No.10 – $3.90)

Racing in tremendous form and looks a great chance to send punters off in style.

Value bet: DEFIBRILLATE (Race 6, No.1 – $8.50)

NICK QUINN (TAB)

ANCIENT GIRL (Race 8, No.12 – $2.50)

Emerging filly who won strongly in Adelaide last start over 1600m and stays at that trip. Looks to have plenty of upside who looks well placed to win again.

Value bet: ICE PICK NICK (The Valley, Race 1, No.6 – $7)

DOOMBEN

TRENTON AKERS (Courier Mail)

SAWEETIE (Race 1, No.7 – $4)

Has class written all over her and returns here in a race that maps perfectly for her. Should be able to sit off a hot speed and strike first up.

Value bet: BLACK MAGNUM (Race 7, No.15 – $34)

TAB odds correct at time of publishing.
