Monday’s scheduled Victorian race meeting at Moe has been abandoned amid a severe weather event engulfing the state.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for Victoria, which has resulted in the abandonment of today's Moe meeting.

More than 130,000 Victorian homes and businesses were left without power overnight as wild winds battered the state.

Gusts reached up to 146km/h in coastal areas, with more high winds and possible thunderstorms forecast.

Just before 6am today, Racing Victoria stewards announced their decision to abandon not only today’s Moe meeting, but jumpouts scheduled for Cranbourne.

“The club suffered a power outage due to the severe weather and with the Bureau of Meteorology predicting wind gusts of up to 90km per hour this afternoon, RV Stewards made the decision to abandon the meeting in the interests of participant welfare,” a Racing Victoria statement said.

“A decision will be made today on whether or not the meeting will be rescheduled.”

Racing on Tuesday is scheduled at Benalla, where the track is currently rated a Soft 7.
