Hunter Cup draw results: Lochinvar Art draws outside, front row
Record-breaking 4YO Bonanza winner Lochinvar Art has been brought back down earth after copping a horror draw for Saturday night’s Hunter Cup.
Young gun Lochinvar Art has experience and now a horror draw against him in Saturday night’s Hunter Cup at Melton.
Trainer-driver David Moran, still buzzing after Lochinvar Art’s record-breaking 4YO Bonanza win last Saturday night, was philosophical after the drawing outside the front row (seven).
“He doesn’t have to be driven tough. He’s versatile and he’s really in the zone,” Moran said.
“He’s come through the other night’s win really well.”
Last-start Ballarat Cup third Chase Auckland, one of four Kiwis in the field, grabbed favouritism at $3.10 with TAB after landing gate four.
A Gs White Socks, who led throughout to win the Ballarat Cup, will have to come from the back row (gate 11) this time.
He eased from $3.50 pre-draw to $7.
The biggest winners from the draw were former Kiwi and now NSW-based Alta Orlando (gate one) and Kiwi Mach Shard (two).
Alta Orlando is one of three runners for the Craig Cross/Luke McCarthy stable.
McCarthy will drive Bling It On and brother Todd will choose between Alta Orlando and Cash N Flow.
In the other feature, the $250,000 Great Southern Star for trotters, local hero Tornado Valley was the big winner with gate three.
“It’s a great field, so drawing well is a big help,” trainer Andy Gath said.
