Top bets from Jett Hatton for Swan Hill & Yarra Valley
I’ve done the form for Yarra Valley and Swan Hill’s meetings on Sunday and come up with three selections for each card.
The Chris Waller-trained Pancho has been slowly building for a strong effort and he looks well placed in Sunday’s Yarra Valley Cup.
YARRA VALLEY
BEST BET
YULONG PHELPS (Race 5 No 1)
Tipped Yulong Phelps on top last start and he was good to us, so we will stick on Sunday. Strong through the line to bolt in, he’ll take plenty of improvement for the run now he is nearing peak fitness third-up. Should prove hard to beat.
NEXT BEST
PANCHO (Race 7 No 1)
Has been building steadily for a race of this quality and think he breaks through on Sunday. Went well last time out behind Desert Icon, the step in trip suits as does the booking of Damien Thornton.
VALUE BET
WEWANDA (Race 1 No 13)
Still a maiden after 13 starts but gets her chance on Sunday. Like her resuming at the short trip, as she produced plenty of good efforts over similar distances when in Queensland. Not an overly hard race and she represents good value at $17.
SWAN HILL
BEST BET
AVID GENERAL (Race 4 No 1)
Speedy six-year-old that loves the short course trips and he can make it a hat-trick of wins here. Dominated last time out when winning by three lengths, there’s been good form out of the race and he remains well weighted after the claim for Hannah Le Blanc.
NEXT BEST
THE ENZO (Race 5 No 3)
Turned in a strong effort at Broken Hill last time out and looks well placed to win on Sunday. Drops 1.5kg on that effort and steps out to the mile, a distance where three of his five wins have come. Drawn to get a soft run in barrier two, he can go one better here.
VALUE BET
HUBBLE (Race 7 No 2)
Former NSW galloper having his first start for Nathan Hobson. 1200m may be a trip short of his best, but he’s got the class to be winning a race of this quality and at the odds, he looks worthy of an each-way ticket.
