Tony and Maddy Sears targeting Queensland winter carnival for exciting debutant Atomic Time
Toowoomba trainer Tony and Maddy Sears have an exciting rookie ready to be unleashed at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Trainer Maddy Sears is already eyeing off the riches of the Queensland winter carnival for her exciting debutant Atomic Time.
Punters will get to see the gelding for the first time on Saturday when he races in the opening event of the Eagle Farm card, the 2YO Open Handicap (1300m).
Hong Kong-bound jockey Jimmy Orman will take the ride for the two-year-old, who is rated as a $1.90 favourite in a seven-horse field.

Sears, who trains in partnership with her father Tony, said Atomic Time was purchased in conjunction with Paul Moroney and Catheryne Bruggeman for $NZ220,000 last year.
“He’s always shown a lot but we’ve taken our time with him and not been rushed,” she said.
“He’s a very exciting horse and we’re really looking forward to having him at the races.
“So far he’s shown that he’s going to be potentially well above average.”
Sears said Atomic Time would be targeted towards the Group 2 Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Eagle Farm on May 31.

“Our intentions are to race him on Saturday and then we’ll put him away for a little bit and then get him ready for the Sires Produce,” she said.
“I think he’ll be the ideal horse for that. We always thought he’d be a Guineas-style horse. At this point in time he’s doing everything right and he’s going to be well prepared heading into Saturday.
“He’s had a decent enough amount of trials and jumpouts and we’re really happy with him.”
Atomic Time won his only official trial on January 28 over 900m on the Gold Coast as preparation for his debut assignment on Saturday.
“He’s not a one-dimensional horse,” Sears said.
“He’s happy to sit and relax behind other horses so on Saturday we’ll want to make sure he’s positive out of the gates and then hopefully he’ll be too strong for them late.”
The Sears camp also has eight-year-old gelding Sinawann running in a 1400m Open Handicap, with Orman again on board, as a $16 hope with bookmakers.
“He just needs a bit of cover and to relax in the run,” Sears said of the Irish import.
“When that happens he’s a got a great turn of foot and a great finish so we’re hoping he can go well.”
