Mitch Cohen and Shayne O’Cass’s Turf Talk for Royal Randwick: Manaal ‘best bet on card, 1200m no problem’
Mitch Cohen and Shayne O’Cass debate a spring-shaping 10-race card at Royal Randwick on Saturday, where Mitch is backing a Group 1-winning filly to return to the winner’s stall.
Racenet and The Daily Telegraph’s racing writers Mitch Cohen and Shayne O’Cass analyse Saturday’s 10-race card at Royal Randwick.

In the Everest-shaping Group 3 Concorde Stakes (1000m), Mitch thinks a consistent campaigner can upset the favourite, while in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m), Shayno will be backing an import who’s overdue for an Australian win.
As for his best bets ... Mitch is keen to bon a Group 1-winning filly in the Furious Stakes, and he’s also keen on an each-way priced runner in the last. Yes, it’s trained by Bjorn Baker!

Shayno: Hello Mitchy. Big day at HQ on Saturday from an Everest point of view. I just can’t go past the 2022 The Everest champ Giga Kick. I had another look at his CV. Wow. Maybe he’s not an out and out 1000m horse but I loved the trial and James McDonald will give him his opportunity.
Mitch: G’day Shayno. I am not saying he can’t win but I want to see Giga Kick do it again before diving in on Saturday. I’ve gone Private Eye. Forget his autumn, he’s a spring horse and he’s won his first up assignments at this time of year.

Shayno: Can’t say this is the greatest Chelmsford Stakes on record. I know what it is and that is the best chance that Buckaroo has had to win a race here in Australia. Now that’s bearing in mind he has run in some of the best one’s on the calendar.
Mitch: I am with Zardozi. It was hard to find a horse in that Winx Stakes that didn’t run well and this Godolphin mare was no different. She will be better over further but so will most of her rivals this weekend. Have to wonder though, is she a betting commodity at around even money? I’d prefer to watch.

Shayno. My little take Mitchy for what it is worth, is that Manaal is advantaged now back at level weights, but does she want 1400m? We’ll know soon enough.
Mitch: My take? Manaal is the best bet on the card. She gave away three kilos to the two horses that finished in front of her in the Silver Shadow and there was only the barest of margins between them on the line. The 1200m is no concern for me.

Shayno: Looking and hoping for a blowout in the Tramway. Not sure how wound-up she is but Molly Bloom is a NZ 1000 Guineas now with Chris Waller. She’s too good to be $41.
Mitch: Thinking you might be going off a run or two early with Molly Bloom. I’m looking to her stablemate Democracy Manifest. No doubt the draw makes life tougher but tipping he will get back and be hard to hold out late.
