The Everest winner Bella Nipotina to bypass Sydney autumn carnival for Brisbane winter campaign
Trainer Ciaron Maher will give The Everest winner Bella Nipotina an extended break and target the Brisbane winter carnival.
The Everest winner Bella Nipotina is set to bypass the autumn carnival with trainer Ciaron Maher set to give his bombproof sprinter ample time to recharge the batteries for a Brisbane winter carnival assault.
Bella Nipotina had a mammoth 2024 where she had 14 starts in four states for three Group 1 victories and four major placings.
There was no bigger success than her sensational win in the $20m TAB Everest at Royal Randwick in October.

She is an equal $8 second elect to win over the same track and trip in April’s Group 1 $3m TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) however Bella Nipotina won’t make the race as she enjoys an extended break.
“I had her ticking over but she had a fairly busy year and only had a couple of two week breaks with a fair bit of travelling so we will give her more time,” Maher said.
“She has already done enough.
“We will give her some time and target the Brisbane winter with her again.”
Bella Nipotina enjoyed plenty of success in Brisbane last year, winning the Doomben 10,000 and Tatt’s Tiara while finishing runner-up in the Kingsford Smith Cup and Stradbroke Handicap.

Meanwhile, Maher threw in a late nomination with multiple Group 1 placegetter Semana for this Saturday’s Listed $200,000 Carrington Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick.
Nominations were extended for the Carrington Stakes for 24 hours after the feature event only attracted nine nominations on Monday.
Semana was the only late nomination and joins stablemates Chorlton Lane and St Lawrence among the contenders for the race.
Semana finished third in last Friday’s $1m Magic Millions Sprint on the Gold Coast with Maher still weighing up whether she backs up eight days later.
St Lawrence is coming off a last-start seventh in The Lakes at Wyong while Chorlton Lane was third in the $1m Supernova at Pakenham.
“We will have a look with Semana, she has come through Saturday well,” Maher said.
“Chorlton Lane’s last few runs have been quite good, he took a bit to find his stride again.
“St Lawrence is well and just wasn’t suited when the track raced on speed the other day.”
Bookies installed Semana is a $4.50 second elect for the Carrington Stakes with the Joseph Pride-trained Accredited a clear $1.90 favourite.
Chorlton Lane is $11 and St Lawrence is $15.
