TAMWORTH

BEST BET

Race 3 No. 7: Steel Claws

Raw talent who is nearing a win and finds the right race (again).

NEXT BEST

Race 6 No. 2: Burraneer Buoy

Unplaced in all three fresh runs but he has been trialling a storm.

VALUE

Race 8 No. 4: Paris Lad

A Win, second and a third in his three starts. Resumes from a favourable draw.

INSIDE MAIL - TAREE

RACE 5

Intoxication has raced 10 times on Good and Soft tracks and is yet to run a place. The good news, given it is a Heavy 10, is that she has a win and a third from three starts on Heavy. On top of that, the win was here at Taree, albeit on an 8. Killzy beat one home at Tuncurry last Friday but he was in an impossible to win position the way the track played that day. Has won on Heavy and races well at home. No Tackle is ‘212’ so is in super form.

Bet: Intoxication to win

RACE 6

Aquafire has been nominated for two races at Grafton on Tuesday; he won’t be the only one given the nature of the track here etc. That, plus the fact that all four starts of his are there and they have all been very good indeed. Ditto for Miss Mazerati who could also be heading to Grafton. She was motoring late (pardon the pun) when she ran third at Kempsey. Bear’s A Star is trained here and gets any on-pace advantage on the day.

Bet: Aquafire to win or is scratched Miss Mazerati to win or if scratched Bear’s A Star to win

RACE 7

Baglioni is one of three Brett Bellamy-trained horses down to race and all of them by Cluster. This seven-year-old is quite a handy one. He has won four times and placed six times from 27 starts and there was a lot to like about his run in the Daniel Baker first-up. Baltic Coast ticks off the ‘greys in the wet’ box. This Kris Lees-trained Irish import has won two of his four starts on Heavy. Best horse in the race. Honourable mentions to King Kikau and Run Rory Run.

Bet: Baglioni to win

RACE 8

Royal Teens is trained by Terry ‘Sir Ravanelli’ Evans who has three genuine winning chances making the trip from Tuncurry. Take this mare for instance; she was only beaten three lengths at Newcastle last start in a 64 and drops back to a Taree Class 2. Imagine barrier three is no negative? If indeed it helps to be drawn in, it will certainly boost the prospects of Lord Akomeed who is on trial at 1400m on Friday. Eager to see how he responds. Talma I Love Her has good numbers right across the board.

Bet: Royal Teens to win

INSIDE MAIL - TAMWORTH

RACE 6

Burraneer Buoy has only managed two wins (and two seconds) from 15 starts but he has run some very respectable races in respectable company. A case in point is that he was once beaten a length and half in a Highway. First-up record isn’t flash but he’s been trialling so well. Speaking of good trials, Arrabbiata left a lasting impression winning a 950m Heat here at home on July 31. Magic Flyer is one of the big winners on the day with the change of venue from Gunnedah to his home track.

Bet: Burraneer Buoy to win or of scratched Arrabiata to win

RACE 7

Smart Shot put on a buckjump performance when more or less getting a DNF there at Warren last start at $1.70 (and that was generous). He went back to the trials since and won really nicely too. Drawn wide but is that a bad thing? Full Commitment is a lightly-raced and consistent horse. Not only that, she shed her maiden status as recently as last start so she could be well on an upward trajectory. One for one on a Heavy 9. Brief Song is a big chance to be reserved for a race at home at Scone on Tuesday. Has talent.

Bet: Smart Shot to win or if scratched Full Commitment to win

RACE 8

Paris Lad is a Brett Cavanough-trained son of Under The Louvre hence the clever name. This Grand Syndicates gelding has a record of three starts for a win, a second and a third all from his short, sharp first campaign. Resumes on a bog track which is not ideal but he has trialled well. Former Waterhouse/Bott-housed gelding Prince Of Sepang ran a very creditable race at Moree at his first run for Jane Clement. Makes his ‘home track debut’ now. Low Profile opens her new preparation here bearing in mind that one of her three wins came first-up.

Bet: Paris Lad to win

RACE 9

Keitany is nominated for two races in two states next week so is far from a guaranteed starter here. Wherever she goes, it is worth noting that the Novocastrian mare is in great form. She was a close and closing second at Gunnedah first-up then came here and beat Legolas et al rather easily. Powerstone, according to his trainer, was badly placed at 800m at Gilgandra last start and will appreciate the 1000m at Tamworth a great deal more. Must respect and consider Bottom Bar and Rouge Moulin.

Bet: Keitany to win or if scratched Powerstone to win
