SuperCoach Racing formguide: Round 8 preview and trade advice for VRC Oaks Day
With Oaks Day the penultimate round in SuperCoach, it’s paramount not to lose ground with only one Group 1 race before the all-out assault on Stakes Day, where there will be points aplenty up for grabs.
The finishing post is approaching with only two more rounds left in SuperCoach.
Like Melbourne Cup Day, the Oaks is the only Group 1 on the nine-race program.
But unlike the previous round, there will be no issues managing your salary cap.

VICTORIA OAKS – RACE 8
The top four in betting — MIAMI BOUND, MOONLIGHT MAID, VEGAS JEWEL and GAMAY (all 150k) — are a level above the field. Fourth place is worth the same points as a win in a Listed/Other race, which makes it an easy decision to have all four in the stable. Leaning to handing the captaincy to Miami Bound, who add the Oaks to trainer Danny O’Brien’s Melbourne Cup victory.
RACE 1
IMPI ($150k) can get the day off to a winning start. The lightly-raced five-year-old was defeated for the first time last start but in a strong race at Geelong.
RACE 2
Two-year-old race with eight first-starters, many of them have looked sharp at the trials and jumpouts, including TAGALOA ($125k), GLENFIDDICH ($100k) and CASTLECOMER ($100k). Although a group 3, the race isn’t worth the risk.
RACE 3
Taking a punt on BUMPER BLAST ($125k) as the emerging talent. He was crunched from $7 into $2.2 to win his maiden at Sale in his second career start, and ran the fastest last 200m of the meeting. Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Craig Williams sticks with him. PLATINUM ANGEL ($225k) is the class runner.

RACE 4
Three-year-old filly NUDGE ($100k) ran well in a Group 2 last start and takes on the mares. This is a big field with plenty of chances. Pass.
RACE 5
Competitive sprint race but worth noting that Craig Williams has jumped off BALL OF MUSCLE ($400k) to ride SOOTHING ($275k).
RACE 6
The exciting HARBOUR VIEWS ($150k) should maintain his unbeaten record if he doesn’t run into trouble from barrier 1. O’TAUTO ($175k) wasn’t far behind Harbour Views at Geelong but will have to make a swooping run from the wide barrier.
RACE 7
Tough choice between the top three winning chances — RUSSIAN CAMELOT ($125k), PANCHO ($200k) and QUICK THINKER ($175k). Russian Camelot could be a special talent but as a northern hemisphere bred three-year-old, he’s six months younger than his Sydney opponents.
RACE 9
CALIFORNIA ZIMBOL ($100k) is one of the cheapest horses on offer and the short favourite in a Group 3. Last start she thrashed subsequent Group 1 winner Loving Gaby. Her biggest challenge will be how she handles the straight, which won’t be an issue for TARAAYEF ($175k). Another big field that doesn’t bat very deep.
