Super mare Winx is a mum after heartbreak
Photos have captured the adorable moment Australia’s favourite horse became a mum for the first time following earlier heartbreak.
The mighty mare is now a mum.
Adorable photos have captured the moment Australia’s favourite racehorse welcomed her first foal into the world.
The foal, sired by Coolmore stud Pierro, was born in the early hours of Saturday morning, the horse’s team has announced.
The connections of the 11-year-old super horse have been left “ecstatic”, they wrote in a statement posted to social media.
It comes after the early heartbreak of Winx losing her first foal.
After having a complication-free 11-month pregnancy, Winx was slightly overdue when she went into labour only for her filly foal to be stillborn last year.
This time around it is sheer joy for everyone involved.
The four-time Cox Plate winner gave birth to a healthy filly at the Coolmore stables in the Hunter Valley.
Chris Waller, who trained Winx, was among the first to share his happiness.
Today is a special day that Winx deserves & by my judgment I sensed a very proud Mum. Winx, you are an inspiration to me & so many others. Enjoy being a Mum & stay healthy. Special thanks to a dedicated farm. Chris pic.twitter.com/mUrancAu54

The ownership released a joint statement on Saturday.
“The Tighe, Kepitis, and Treweeke families are ecstatic to announce that the future champion we’ve all been waiting for has arrived,” they wrote in an Instagram post.
“Both mum and foal are healthy and doing very well.
“Thank you to the amazing team who have cared for Winx and her filly throughout this journey.
“We wish Winx all the best as she starts this new chapter as a super mum.”
There were earlier estimates a foal by Winx would be valued around $1 million.
Winx ran her final race in the 2019 Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Royal Randwick, scoring her 33rd win in succession including a world record 25 at Group 1 level.
She earned more than $26.4 million prizemoney, also a world record.
