Shayne O’Cass’s extended preview and tips for Rosehill Gardens

ROSEHILL

Track: Good 4. Rail: True

RACE 1

Overview: Zoukerette is a daughter of I Am Invincible out of the VRC Desirable Stakes winner Walk With Attitude whose other offspring include The Rosebud winner Zoukerino and the Group 3 placed Spend. An $800,000 purchase, the Maher/Eustace youngster has had the benefit of two trials and looked the part in both. Diabelli ran an even race on debut in the famous Maribyrnong Plate at Flemington on Cup Day. Essentially back home and down in class on Saturday with a fabulous draw.

Betting Advice: Zoukerette to win

RACE 2

Overview: The James McDonald tax has driven Colour Sargeant’s price down somewhat but, to be fair, the Matthew Smith-trained gelding has some compelling numbers and is battle-ready this far into the campaign. Jack Duggan is on a hat-trick after a couple of dominant on-pace wins albeit in much easier races than this one. Kim Waugh’s former Kiwi-housed mare has been on an upward trajectory since she arrived at Wyong and will run this trip right out.

Betting Advice: Colour Sergeant to win

RACE 3

Overview: Miss Kirribilli is a proven Highway performer with the admirable C.V of two wins and three seconds from her five starts. Has the in-form Tyler Schiller on and has drawn okay. Sussu is a lightly-raced and handy son of Group 1 winner Macedon Lady. J-Mac the key booking here. That said, Imatruestar has done some good things in his 13 starts and has trialled like a horse ready and able to make his presence felt.

Betting Advice: Imatruestar each-way, quinella 5,7

RACE 4

Overview: Tony Be got one of the rides of the season so far when he won at the Rosehill midweeker the other day. That’s what the horse can do when he gets into clear air and there is a bit of speed on up front. Floating is the great unknown here; perhaps untapped is a better word because we already know that he is a barnstorming type of significant proportions. Fascinating to see how he measures up in this company. Global Ausbred kicked off the preparation with a fourth (at $201) in the Silver Eagle and was been runner-up in his next two — one behind Waterford no less.

Betting Advice: Tony Be to win

RACE 5

Overview: Tough race owing to the fact that we have so many in-form and talented horses facing off. Equal favourites Coco Rox and Winning Verse are at similar stages of their current campaigns with more adequate, indeed, pleasing leads-ups (note the plural). Winning Verse has the better draw of the two. This looks a very fast run race which plays to the strengths of Monte Ditto who invariably races very well at the Rosehill 1100m. None from 14 on good tracks is the worry.

Betting Advice: Monte Ditto each-way

RACE 6

Overview: Dream Runner has a formidable benchmark rating of 97, a number that is not on the way down, in fact, with wins at two of his last three, it’s steaming towards triple figures. He is, by any measure, the best performed horse in the Country Classic; couldn’t see many of his rivals almost winning a Wagga Cup. Proost was beating up on inferior opposition before last Sunday’s perhaps inconclusive Taree Cup run. Wouldn’t be sacking her on that but she has to run the race of her life six days hence to win. Not impossible.

RACE 7

Overview: Steely has been in ripping form this campaign and may get some reward for effort on the weekend. He seems to be well weighted on a kilo to talent ratio and has the rails draw which should be ideal for him. Chris Waller’s French import Longvillers came from last to be beaten under three lengths by Ellsberg in the Five Diamonds. Drew 11 of 11 that day and has drawn 17 of 17 here. Three words for Rebel Rama ‘ keep the faith’. She’s going to win one soon.

RACE 8

Overview: The horse formerly known as Landfall in Ireland and Rose High in Hong Kong now goes by Sunshine Rising in Australia. He has been the talk of the trials since he arrived from Hong Kong. Mark Newnham is a genius with imports no matter where they come from or how old they are. Mirra Vision has won seven races from 27 starts which is a noteworthy and wholly honourable strike rate. She almost won herself a Group 1 in the Empire Rose last start and close up on the Tristarc and Golden Pendant before that. She just can’t draw an alley this campaign.

Betting Advice: Sunshine Rising to win

RACE 9

Overview: Past Provincial Championship Final winner Through The Cracks ran a very good race off the long break in the Choisir at Randwick on Big Dance Day. He has won three from five second-up and if they overdo it, he can ambush them all late. Dragonstone will be the ultimate and primary beneficiary of what shapes as a typically fast run Starlight Stakes. He only needed a few more inches and he probably wins the Warra last week. Najmaty has been quality and class from day one.

Betting Advice: Through The Cracks each-way

RACE 10

Overview: Confession time. I was wrong about Festival Dancer (who was unwanted) first-up at Kembla but logic would suggest that she is open to considerable improvement here. The thing is, is she still one or two away from getting back into the groove again? If the ‘best’ I Am Lethal ever runs out on to the park, there is every chance he would blow away a field like this. He deserves a change of luck. Cavalier Charles went up big odds for an in-form horse.

Betting Advice: Festival Dancer each-way
