Daily Telegraph form analyst Shayne O’Cass runs the rule over every race, including suggested bets, for Saturday’s Hobartville Stakes meeting at Rosehill on Saturday.

The Form: Complete NSW Racing thoroughbred form, including video replays and all you need to know about every horse, jockey and trainer. Find a winner here.

ROSEHILL

Track: Soft 5. Rail: True

RACE 1

Overview: Preemptory had only bad luck in the Randwick Highway first-up. Reckon he would have won if he had a better run and he was well backed. Super Extreme is proven at this level having won two of his last three starts, both in Highway class, and was a neck second in between just for good measure. Impossible to fault when it is all said and done. Evocator is hardly proven at 1400m but he was good enough late in the Tuncurry Country Championships Heat last Sunday to tempt.

The Bet: Preemptory each-way

RACE 2

Overview: Vormista’s grandson is a big chance for Vormista’s trainer Mark Minervini. The son of Dissident deserves a whole lot of credit for that last at Newcastle and he might peak here third-up; he’s done it before. Whisky Wisdom is a lightly-raced but progressive filly from an in-form yard. Much harder this time than what she beat at Kembla but she won easily. True Crime has only missed a place once in his seven starts; three if three of them wins. At his best when on-pace or leading but has drawn out here.

The Bet: New Republic each-way

RACE 3

Overview: Economics was beaten in his trial but it was probably better than it looked. For one, he was narrowly beaten and two, the horse that beat him was Cinderella Days who was already well above-average before her brave placing in the Light Fingers. Parisal justified her long odds-on quote with that commanding win over the soon-to-be well known Dakota Vroom. Insurrection made light work of the outside barrier and his rivals when he zipped over and ran them off their legs to win first-up. Different race this time but seems to be on an upward trajectory.

The Bet: Insurrection to win

RACE 4

Overview: Maybe it is a touch melodramatic but you get the sense it is D-Day for King’s Gambit and his Golden Slipper aspirations. It seems as though a few horses (Barber and Learning To Fly) have overtaken him as Golden Slipper probables but perhaps we have to ask, was he really that bad in the Canonbury? Up to him now. Cylinder, the half to the aforementioned Parisal, is no Barber but he is still a very good colt having finished second in the Max Lees and then in the Merson Cooper down south. Looked razor sharp winning a trial at Rosehill.

The Bet: Cylinder to win

RACE 5

Overview: Tajneed’s breeding is so good that we can’t let it pass without saying that she is by I Am Invincible out of a Galileo daughter of Melito, herself a granddaughter of Summoned. Big call time; Tajneed will win or place in a Group 1 this autumn. Lindermann found the 1200m a wee-bit short first-up. Scratched from the Hobartville to run here instead. There’s a stakes win in this son of Lonhro one day. Willinga Rufio is unbeaten in both first-up appearances, interestingly enough he easily beat Saturday’s rival, Kokoro, at the top of the last preparation.

The Bet: Tajneed to win. Tajneed to win and place in the Queen of Turf (TAB Fixed Odds $101/$26).

RACE 6

Overview: Mariamia was, for a while anyway, an underrated mare. It says a bit about Joe Pride that the Newhaven Park-owned mare won the Expressway at start 35 and more to the point, a six-year-old. The draw? She won the Group 2 last time from barrier 9. Katalin is an outstanding fresh performer. The daughter of Medaglia D’Oro has three wins and two placings from the five fresh runs. No chance of the track beating her on Saturday; it’s hard and fast just like she wants it.

The Bet: Katalin to win

RACE 7

Overview: Banju has finished on the podium 17 times out of 23 starts, seven of those are wins which is a credit to the horse and his trainer Lyle Chandler. Right now, Banju is the Sergey Bubka of Sydney racing; he keeps clearing that bar every time. Why not again? King Frankel won his Australian debut over 1850m by upwards of five lengths. Maybe went off a run too early with Aravene who never really got going first-up at Randwick in that 1300m Mares Benchmark 78 but she was hardly thrashed. Looking back now, she’s not a first-up performer but she has won second-up.

The Bet: Aravene each-way

RACE 8

Overview: Cabin was dominant in the extreme winning the Eskimo Prince two weeks ago. I might be underselling the colt but I am thinking that there are a handful of equally talented horses as him that are perhaps better suited to the 1400m with those respective runs under their belts. Osipenko being Exhibit A. Exhibit B is Brosnan. Macha Latte could be the knockout horse in this year’s Hobartville. He’s no Shadow Hero but he is a talent and an underrated one at that. Sure, 1400m against this lot is a big ask but he’s big odds to try.

The Bet: Macha Latte each-way

RACE 9

Overview: Cross Talk is primed to win on Saturday. Been trialling especially well. All they needed was a decent draw and low and behold, they got barrier two. One caveat; is he better on the wet than the dry? Welwal, my unsuccessful tip in the Golden Eagle, is a huge market watch. World-class might be taking it a little bit too far but he’s won the same Group 3 at Longchamp as Blushing Groom, Kenmare, Hector Protector, Irish River, Linamix, etc, and then contested the French 1000 Guineas and French Derby.

The Bet: Cross Talk to win

RACE 10

Overview: Quick Tempo won his first five starts and you could probably make a case that he has been unlucky in more or the less the majority of his subsequent 11 starts. You would have to look pretty hard to find a horse in Sydney that is capable of reeling off better last 600m, 400m and 200m than this son of Rubick. That said maybe Andermatt is one such horse. This son of Snitzel and Portillo can really launch himself late. Take a look at the numbers.

The Bet: Andermatt to win, exacta 2 to beat 5
