SATURDAY racing comes to you today from Rosehill Gardens. Here’s all the last-minute tips and info from Daily Telegraph racing editor Ray Thomas.

Note the Queensland Oaks meeting scheduled for Eagle Farm today has been abandoned due to wet weather.

ROSEHILL GARDENS

Weather: Cool, cloudy day with showers, heavy at times and a forecast top temperature of 21c.

Track: Heavy (9)

Rail: True

BE WARY: Rosehill is in the heavy range with every likelihood the track will deteriorate given the forecast for heavy rain today. The rail is in the true position but jockeys will steer towards the centre in the home straight.

ROSEHILL GARDENS

THE BEST BET: Farolitos (race seven) has been improved by two runs from a spell including his closing effort when second at Randwick over 1600m. Farolitos shouldered 60kg that day and had to concede the winner 9kg. He has struck a heavy track only once in his 16-start career but it was an excellent effort when edged out by Hi World in the Carbine Club Stakes last year. At his peak now, drawn well and is nicely weighted on 56.5kg after apprentice Andrew Adkins’s 3kg claim. Farolitos has been unplaced in all four Rosehill runs but don’t be alarmed as he has run very competitively in two of those races. Ready to win today.

THE NEXT BEST: For the second week in a row Roguish (race six) has been the best backed runner on the Sydney program. At Rosehill today. Roguish is into $5.50 and firming after opening at the very generous quote of $11. Those punters who backed Roguish last week will still be smarting after the young, inexperienced sprinter threw away his chance of winning but ducking out badly under pressure. Roguish has won twice on soft ground and his sire More Than Ready is noted for producing wet-trackers.

VALUE BET: More Than Fabulous (race six) is much fitter after two runs from a spell and ran an eye-catching race when he ran on last on the turn to finish fourth to Tsaritsa. The final 600m sectional of that race was run in sub-34s so More Than Fabulous did well to make up ground in the run to the line. His third-up statistics are very good, he is very effective on heavy tracks and Deanne Panya’s 3kg claim means he gets in with only 51kg. Super lightweight chance at $12.

THE WHISPER: McCreery (race nine) is a former English galloper who has had only six starts for three wins and three placings. He has raced only twice in Australia for Chris Waller and impressed both times, finishing a luckless second at Rosehill before he powered home to win at Gosford on a slow tack back in March. He is resuming today but showed a bit of dash in a recent Rosehill trial when fourth to the speedy This Is Australia. There is a bit against him today, first-up on a wet track, drawn off the track, and over 1200m which is short of his best but McCreery just might be the best horse competing at the Rosehill meeting.
