The Adelaide carnival has received an unexpected star power boost with 2022 The Everest champion Giga Kick to resume at Morphettville.

Racenet has confirmed the multiple Group 1 winner will headline the Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) on May 10.

It is understood Melbourne Cup winner Mark Zahra will jet across the border to ride the sprint star who will carry the luxury weight of 54.5kg under the set weights and penalties conditions of the $1m sprint.

It had been widely expected Giga Kick, who won a jumpout at Balnarring on Wednesday, would resume in the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 on May 17.

Giga Kick is a past Doomben 10,000 champion, having scored the Queensland winter carnival sprint in 2023.

But Clayton Douglas’s five-year-old gelding will not be seen in the Doomben 10,000 given its timing a week after The Goodwood.

It is likely Giga Kick will attack the Group 1 Kingsford Smith Cup (1300m) as his second-up mission at Eagle Farm on May 31.

Girl power: Why mares are dominating Australian racing

Until this week, Giga Kick hadn’t featured in early betting markets on The Goodwood.

But he is now a $4 favourite with Sportsbet.

The Adelaide carnival has sometimes struggled for big stars but now it can count on Giga Kick, the earner of almost $13m in prize money, being a crowd puller.
