Frothy Macaw flew home to snare a huge result for Matthew Seyers, as the handler nailed a maiden win for leviathan owner John Singleton at Morphettville on Saturday.

Fresh from scoring a double at Friday’s Mount Gambier Cup meeting, Seyers captured a third win in just over 24 hours with the two-year-old filly, a $100,000 Magic Millions purchase.

If the filly’s name didn’t give it away, there’s a renowned figure in the ownership in prominent entrepreneur John Singleton, a bird lover who is known to shout the bar a “frothy” on race day.

Handed a budget of $200,000 by Singleton, Seyers acquired Frothy Macaw at the 2024 Adelaide Yearling Sale.

The filly ran a respectable fifth on debut in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic, before being guided to victory by Jacob Opperman in Saturday’s Benchmark 68 (1000m).

“Out of the blue I got a phone call from Magic Millions to give him (Singleton) a call, he wanted to race a horse in South Australia and he gave us a reasonable budget to go and purchase a horse and we ended up with her,” Seyers, who trains at Murray Bridge, said.

“It’s a great result. Thanks to the opportunity from Mr Singleton.

“She’s a lovely filly by Anders, I said to Jacob today ‘just try to get a bum early’.

“I think she got a bit lost at the Bridge, she began well and got left in front, I thought today with a trail she might hit the line all right.”

With the Adelaide racing carnival around the corner, Seyers now has his sights on next month’s Listed Dequetteville Stakes (1000m) for the filly.

“She pulled up super from the Magic Millions, she’s got a real brain about her, I think she’ll be better in six months time,” he said.

Angaston trainers Aaron Bain and Ned Taylor continued their hot run, the duo scored two winners on Morphettville’s card with Bakeel and Overextend.

Bakeel’s win in a Benchmark 78 (1400m) capped an unbeaten hat-trick for the ex-Singapore galloper since arriving in SA, and he is now being aimed at the Listed City of Adelaide Handicap in April.

Missing the kick and overracing, not much went right for race favourite Immortal Bliss, but the imposing gelding was still too strong for his rivals under Teagan Voorham in a Class 1 Handicap (1000m).

His trainer Peter Hardacre is also targeting a stakes tilt, the three-year-old will tackle the Listed Redelva Stakes (1100m) next month.

Bain and Taylor shared training honours with Michael Hickmott on the nine-race card, who scored wins with Ad Astra and Exalted Fire. Jockeys Taylor Johnstone and Jacob Opperman both had a hand on riding honours with a brace each.
