JOHN O’Shea remains cautiously optimistic over Holler’s Royal Ascot prospects after the Aussie raider completed his Diamond Jubilee Stakes preparations.
The Canterbury Stakes winner worked over 1200m on the Limekilns at Newmarket, pleasing jockey James McDonald and O’Shea.
“Holler went well this morning over six furlongs and he is looking on track for Royal Ascot on Saturday,” O’Shea said.
“He has had a nice preparation since arriving in Newmarket and appears to have met the challenges of the undulating ground and the straight run having worked three times over the last couple of weeks.
“We are happy enough at this stage with his preparation and we are looking forward to Saturday’s race.”
McDonald, who has picked up six rides at the Royal meeting, said: “Holler felt good this morning and put in a nice piece of work. He seems to have adapted well to the conditions and I am excited for Saturday’s race.
“It’s an exciting week for the team and I have picked up some nice rides for Godolphin.”
McDonald almost landed the Ascot Stakes on Godolphin’s Qewy, only to be denied by greybeard mudlark Jennies Jewel, the first nine-year-old to win at the Royal meeting since Beeswing in the 1842 Gold Cup.
The opening day of the five-day meeting was crowned by the wins of Tepin in the Queen Anne Stakes, Galileo Gold in the St James’s Palace Stakes and Profitable in the King’s Stand Stakes.
