Daily Telegraph form analyst Shayne O’Cass runs the rule over every race, including suggested bets, for the $2 million Five Diamonds meeting at Rosehill on Saturday.

ROSEHILL

Track: Good 4. Rail: Our 3m

RACE 1

Overview: Unanimous was $41 out to $61 and ran accordingly in some respects when 12th of 14 in a Randwick Bm78 mile two weeks ago. Granted, he didn’t do much early but he was okay late. You could argue this is a weaker Bm78, certainly a smaller field anyway and the extra 200m can only assist. First Light was doing his best work late as always on a seven day back-up equals big watch.

Bet: Unanimous each-way

RACE 2

Overview: Loving Cilla has thrived since she joined the Greg Hickman stable. She was building up to that win at Randwick in the Midway two starts ago. Has won up to 2000m. Regarding the 2400m, she is by Reliable Man, she is fit and her pattern says ‘yes’. Speycaster just ran out of time and turf to win his 2400m assignment on the Kensington track last start. Rosehill is home and also more suitable to him. Caboche and Twigman are in the hunt.

Bet: Loving Cilla each-way

RACE 3

Overview: Eagle Nest has three wins and three seconds from nine starts. Her first win was a gap-job, her last two - back-to-back to open this campaign - were both comfortable bordering on easy in fact. This is her absolute pet trip and she’s trained here. Cross The Rubicon is as good as any of these and better than most on her day. She has been prone to missing the start on occasions but she can really rocket late. Blinkers first time for Widdup’s mare take note. Miss Hellfire trialled well indeed ahead of this.

Bet: Eagle Nest to win

RACE 4

Overview: Montebello’s Charm was $71 at Randwick on Big Dance Day; she ran 12th of 13 but she didn’t get much of a crack at them without being unlucky. If we get any rain that maybe tips the track closer into the Soft range, her chances would go up. I hate the word ‘airborn’ but I can’t think of a better one to use when simple ‘flying’ doesn’t do it justice. I am speaking of Monte Outlander. You wouldn’t see a better win than his win at Coffs Harbour. You wouldn’t see a better trial than his trial at Coffs.

Bet: Montebello’s Charm and Monte Outlander each-way, quinella/duet 11, 19

RACE 5

Overview: If there is one horse racing at Rosehill on Saturday that deserves a change of luck, it is Poseidon Ruler. He has some awful luck with barriers and when that happens, he goes even further back than usual and then it gets hard to pass so many horses in traffic. He went to the line virtually untested at Newcastle first-up. Byron is a Rosehill winner. Bryon is a first-up winner. He has rock solid Midway form and you would have to entertain him on his two trials. Vindication and Another Cognac should run well.

Bet: Poseidon Ruler each-way, box First 4 Nos. 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

RACE 6

Overview: Jeff Penza (get well soon) rode Roots to win on debut at Goulburn on September 25 in 2021. Three weeks later, she was runner-up to Fangirl no less in the Reginald Allen. As for more recent times. Roots resumed with an outstanding fifth in the Alan Brown. Tommy Berry suggested blinkers for Roots after The Invitation run. They go on and he sticks. Mirra View’s last two runs would just about have to be her best two. Finepoint has some incredibly compelling figures. Call Di has a great draw and a great jockey.

Bet: Roots to win

RACE 7

Overview: It was amazing (to me anyway) that Volatile and Scampi both ran so badly in the Breeders’ Plate after they had trialled so well at the official heats. Two-year-olds on debut, need to be forgiven for such things, especially as they have both been back to the trials and went just about as well the first time we all laid eyes on them. Brad Widdup’s Snitzel filly Art’s Alive sent out some really good signs there at the midweeks on debut. Rue De Royale has drawn well. Got to respect this camp when they come to Sydney.

Bet: Volatile to win

RACE 8

Overview: Been telling anyone who will listen that this year’s Cameron Handicap at Newcastle was a very strong form race. For the record, the podium was Democracy Manifest, Palmetto and Spangler. As for Democracy Manifest, he was super unlucky in the Epsom and nothing ran better than him in the Prelude. You should have seen Nash get it all so right on this horse at his only ride so far. Palmetto a clear danger. Hope In Your Heart is all heart and class. Waterford and Tommy Berry are a very good match.

Bet: Democracy Manifest to win, exacta 7 to beat 2

RACE 9

Overview: Tympanist is what some might say is ‘dangerous’ here. I concur but I’ll add ‘likeable’ to that. David Payne had two races to choose from on Saturday and ended up here in the 1400m one with 54kg and Dylan Gibbons. Loved the trials, he is ready for this, I just hope all the stars align for him on the day. Speaking of stars and aligning, Mars Mission got it all laid out for him here last Saturday but don’t get me wrong, horse and rider were very good. Gringotts has a bit of weight this time but the camp didn’t claim so there you go.

Bet: Tympanist each-way

RACE 10

Overview: With Your Blessing has drawn favourably here, by any measure, but especially for him. You would like to imagine that he races just off the speed - and there looks to be plenty of that if they all turn up on the day. This is just about his pert trip and he was ‘good’ in a ‘good’ race first. Ditto that for Contemporary who was just in behind With Your Blessing that day. All eyes, well most of them anyway, will be on the three-year-old Gustosisimo who is unbeaten in his two runs as a gelding.

Bet: With Your Blessing to win
