RUNS OF THE DAY

The performances of the juveniles Swear and Flow to quinella what looked to be a solid race were notable. It’s not easy to make your debut at 1300m and be so dominant late. Both look to have very bright futures.

FORGET THEY RAN

Tales Of Grimm was only having his second run back from a long spell and was well beaten at the finish. He still paraded above himself and as it turned out was in the slower section of the track. I don’t think his run was too bad. Tales Of Grimm won the Scone Cup last year and don’t be surprised if he gives it an almighty shake again this year if he heads that way.

THE BLACK BOOK

Lightly raced French import Hipparchus appears a very promising stayer in the making. He has youth on his side and although he still has to go through his grades don’t be surprised if he eventually goes to the top.

RIDE OF THE DAY

Amovatio ridden by Rory Hutchings was Duff’s ride of the day.

The clear cut ride of the day to my eye was definitely Rory Hutchings’s effort on Hawkesbury Gold Cup winner Amovatio. From barrier 16 he angled Amovatio back to find cover and found all the right backs to blend into the race at the right time. His ride was a beauty.
