Robbie Laing’s training career remains in limbo after he was unable to satisfy Racing Victoria’s board he should hold a licence despite his financial issues.

RV rejected Laing’s written submission after considering the veteran horseman’s commitments to improve his financial situation.

RV last month rejected Laing’s race nominations because of unpaid stable rent at Cranbourne and debts to yearling sale companies.

Laing was granted a short-term renewal of his licence in July, subject to a set of financial conditions, valid to November 30.

“Mr Laing's licence was reviewed at Racing Victoria's November board meeting with the decision made not to renew his licence beyond November 30 due to some of the conditions not being met,” RV said.

After weighing up Laing’s situation at its board meeting on Tuesday, RV knocked back his application.

“Approval of any future applications for a trainer's licence will not be granted until Mr Laing is deemed a financially suitable candidate,” RV said.

Laing has the right of appeal to the Victorian Civil Administrative Tribunal.
