Racing Victoria strikes deal with Tabcorp to provide tote windows at city and major regional meetings

Racing Victoria has come to an arrangement with Tabcorp to keep face-to-face tote facilities at select meetings.

Racing Victoria has brokered a deal with Tabcorp to keep tote windows open at all metropolitan and major regional meetings to July 31.

Tabcorp will shutter face-to-face cash windows at greyhound, harness and small scale thoroughbred racecourses from December 1, to cut cost and meet changing customer demand.

Collectively, on-course TAB cash wagering represents less than one per cent of all Victorian turnover.

“As part of evolution we will be reducing the number of cash terminals at Victorian race tracks – because a majority of customers have told us they want to bet digitally,” a Tabcorp spokesman said.

“TAB will continue to offer full cash services at race meetings that are the most important to the Victorian Racing Industry.

“This includes metropolitan meetings and feature race days on the provincial and country circuit.

“These changes better reflect the evolving betting patterns and feedback of our customers.”

RV would not be drawn on the cost of the deal with Tabcorp, citing “commercial in confidence”.

“To minimise any potential impacts on clubs and their customers, RV has reached agreement with TAB to fund on-course wagering services at 140 race meetings throughout the remainder of the 2024-25 season,” a spokesperson said.

On-course bookmakers will remain in attendance at each Victorian race meeting, including those set to be without a TAB service.
