THE INSIDE MAIL FOR SCONE

RACE 1

Wow, what a race (if they all show up that is). This is a trial watchers dream, or nightmare, depending on how you look at it with a handful of very impressive practise runs for some. Chief among them is the local, Alenia, from the Brett Cavanough yard. Not saying she is the next It’s Me but you couldn’t be anything other than seriously taken with those two trial wins. Where? Here! Allan Denham and George Altomonte’s Snitzel son Beppe and won his Wyong trial like a good horse; 900m suits. Kiss And Shout also trialled super.

Bet: Alenia to win, exacta 6 to beat 1, All-up Race 1 No. 6/Race 2 No. 6

RACE 2

Speaking of good triallers, no one would have missed the dual wins of Quick Tempo who was the second cheapest horse bought at the Easter sales in 220 making just $20,000. He’ll win ten times that if he runs in the afternoons like he does in the morning. Exciting horse. Rod Northam’s local Hirashin turned in a decent debut when he headed to Tamworth 6. Back home for this and has the race experience. Secret Tears is one of Cav’s that trialled up rather well last month.

Bet: Quick Tempo to win

RACE 3

Smokeshow is a stablemate of Everest runner Lost And Running and heads to Scone today off a couple of beauties at the provincials. This John O’Shea/Champion Thoroughbreds filly is going to relish the wide-open spaces of Scone. Angela Davies has a truly amazing strike-rate and has found an ideal race (as always) for her first starter Yes You Think. She is a well-bred type who has indicated her readiness, and talent, at the trials. Cav’s She’s Contrary ran on especially well over 900m on debut -1100m today is right up her alley.

Bet: Smokeshow to win, box First 4: 2,3,7,6,11

Alysha Collett rides Smokeshow for trainer John O’Shea.

RACE 4

Alight The Night ran two sterling seconds when she was with Nathan Doyle including one on August 12 here at Scone where she now calls home given that Brett Cavanough handles her now. Drawn well and bursting to win a race. O’Shea and Champion Thoroughbreds combine here again with Hoost, a son of Arrowfield resident Scissor Kick. Plenty to enthuse about Hoost’s first-up third to Daralina Belle who won again at Nowra on Sunday. Bridges To Baylon can really launch herself late. Geisel will have admirers for obvious reasons.

Bet: Alight The Night to win, quinella 10,12

RACE 5

Raay Of Dreams generates a bit of interest here. She was going places early in her career, she beat Bigboyroy at Doomben immediately after finishing third to Alligator Blood at the Sunshine Coast. Fast forward to the present and this will be her third run for Mark Minervini who has her headed the right way. Unearthed, once a stablemate of Raay Of Dreams is first-up but take note that her only win so far came when first-up. Gets home hard. The other Kris Lees runner, Ciccina was in another league at Taree first-up.

Bet: Raay Of Dreams each-way, box trifecta 1,3,5,13

RACE 6

Freedom Square was born and raised at nearby Arrowfield Stud and is still there as a four-year-old given that he is trained by Paul Messara. This son of the farm’s crack colt Panzer Division left an almighty impression with his debut win here then was spelled after his somewhat equally huge second at the same venue. Market the guide. He will have to be on-song though to beat the race-fit and obviously handy Harlem Groove whose debut win here was something to behold. Spilia has claims as does Heredero who races well at the venue.

Bet: Freedom Square to win, quinella 2,8

RACE 7

Joey’s Chance is a Rodney Northam-trained grey who can best be described as a ‘barnstormer’. He is absolutely tailor-made for his home track and we know he loves getting out there fresh and charging home late. His biggest dangers are both drawn very wide indeed namely Dominant Lady and Ballistic Moon who is even worse off! That said, both are well and truly good enough to medal; Ballistic Moon was incredibly impressive winning here three weeks ago.

Bet: Joey’s Chance each-way

RACE 8

Super Solar can make it a race to race double for the ‘greys’ here hopefully. The John Sargent trained gelding finished powerfully when showing a fair amount of desire too when he won a mile race here at Scone 14-days ago. That’s 3 from 8 now and it would have done wonders for his confidence. Can keep progressing. Itsaca got one of the rides of the season by Reece Jones to win at Tamworth. Sure, it was narrow but she was better than them and up to these. Tinka’s Lad is aiming for a hat-trick so is naturally in wonderful form. Weather Channel is the value.

Bet: Super Solar to win
