HAWKESBURY

BEST BET

Race 8, No.3: CAMINO REAL

She’s raced in better events than this so she’s well placed first-up and handles wet ground. Her latest barrier trial should give her followers confidence.

NEXT BEST

Race 6, No.3: DIAMOND DIESEL

He ran third behind two fairly nice horses in a Saturday Midway race last start and is back to provincial level where he won two races to start his prep.

VALUE BET

Race 1, No.3: QUEEN YUNA

She’s drawn out but should take a sit and be coming home well on debut under a leading rider who trialled her up both times ahead of this.

QUADDIE

Race 6: 1, 3

Race 7: 1, 2, 5

Race 8: 3, 10

Race 9: 3, 5, 6, 7, 9

TRAINER TO WATCH

Robert and Luke Price might leave Hawkesbury with a winning double if Powerbeel and Noble Attack can bring their best in the third and fifth races.

JOCKEY TO WATCH

Tommy Berry will be confident on Nickelback, Oxford Vision and Cool Kaap while most of his others are chances too.

THE INSIDE MAIL FOR HAWKESBURY

RACE 1

Kai Tak has been given two winning trials this time in and one was at the track. She ran in two better races than this at her first prep including a Group 3 event on debut so the stable must like her and she’s no doubt nice and forward for this. Exsensible should have the speed to come across and sit outside the leader but needs luck. Queen Yuna looked the part in her latest trial but has also drawn out so might take a sit here. Rippin’ Ruis was given a typical Team Hawkes trial leading into this and has the right gate.

Bet: Queen Yuna each way

RACE 2

Silvanito comes out of what should be two good form races. He was beaten into third by Kote at Canterbury last start and it should’ve won in town last Saturday. Samurai Dream has drawn well for her debut and trialled up well enough and is by Savabeel so should handle the wet ground. Take The Kitty ran above his odds here first-up when finishing off strongly and he must be better now.

Bet: Silvanito to win

RACE 3

Phearson just ran into one better first-up off a very long break and he’s staying on his home track and will handle the ground as an improving horse. Pike’s ride will be crucial to his chances though. Nickelback was good fresh and should sit one off the fence and a pair back and appreciate the extra ground second-up. Edna has finally drawn a good gate but is six weeks off and up in trip. Powerbeel ran within two lengths of Willinga Rufio three runs back which is super form and just got trapped deep first-up. From a better gate look for a stronger finish.

Bet: Powerbeel each way

RACE 4

Zakiyya ran into Zou Tiger on debut and it went close on the Golden Rose last weekend. She was running on second-up last time and from a better gate she gets her chance now down even further in grade. Cabaca is going to be better suited to 1600m now but the wet track looks a query here.

Bet: Zakiyya to win

RACE 5

Noble Attack has run second at his past four starts so is naturally knocking on the door and they’ve all been on wet ground. He’s got the speed to come across and lead them here and he had a look at this track last start. El Bravo should sit in behind the speed and in the perfect spot. He’s unplaced from eight starts to date but his past two runs have been fourth placings where running very close in behind the winner so this is his chance to finish in the money. See how Phearson went earlier in the day because Mehajir wasn’t far off him last time.

Bet: El Bravo to win

RACE 6

Diamond Diesel drops back from midway grade to try and win another provincial race and he was good just behind a couple of handy ones at Randwick two weeks ago so he’s well placed here. Dimaggio probably sits up on the speed here over 1500m which is a trip he looks to want. Dream Eclipse won’t mind the heavy going and is as fit as he can be.

Bet: Diamond Diesel to win

RACE 7

Shines trialled up comfortably off a 19-week spell after racing in Victoria twice to kick off his career where he led on both occasions and won once. He’s drawn to get the favours but is untested on heavy ground. Oxford Vision won with a bit in hand first-up at Kembla Grange and wet ground isn’t an issue on a big track which is too his liking. Lessing has been off the scene for a long time but her trainer said he’s got her forward off two barrier trials and should run well.

Bet: Oxford Vision to win

RACE 8

Camino Real returns from a spell and she’s well placed here by James Cummings after she showed plenty in higher grade last time in. She looked very comfortable in cruising up to them during her last trial and she looks the one to beat. Estilete is the untapped runner of the field after scoring in fine fashion at start two last time at Goulburn and her trainer has used bush races to get her better ones ready for bigger things. Musume should look to cross them before the first bend here and is an improver second-up.

Bet: Camino Real to win

RACE 9

Cool Kaap won well at Eagle Farm and stayed in Queensland for a barrier trail after a spell in the winter warmth which is something the Chris Waller stable likes to do so look for a bright return from the Coolmore-owned horse. Garmish just got trapped wide last time but could that happen again from a wide gate here? The market looks to be supporting Fuller despite and unplaced run at Sandown first-up.

Bet: Cool Kaap to win
