THE INSIDE MAIL FOR HAWKESBURY
RACE 1
Mr Bond makes his hometown debut today after absolutely bolting in at Wyong over this same 2100m at his fourth run for Brad Widdup since coming over from New Zealand. Make no mistake, Mr Bond is well equipped to run 2400m which accounts for why he was so strong at 2100m last start. Rodrick’s Secret was building up to that last start win at Wyong over the mile. Place over 2300m - odd for a Rubick, but there you go. The $1.25 million yearling De Valera is ‘one for one’ at the Hawkesbury 2100m. So Sneeky is a very model of consistency.
Bet: Mr Bond to win, box trifecta 1,2,6,7
RACE 2
Star Cherie, a relative of the great Super Impose, has a tidy little C.V of five starts for two wins and two placings. Her ‘worst’ run was in fact an honourable 3.3-lengths off Escape Artist on the Kensington track so she has done very little wrong. Last start winner- what’s not to like. Gidgee Guy has only won four of his 33 starts but he has been placed 17 times and has twice been runner-up from three visits to this venue. Moralis was $13 into $7 last start and ran okay. Third-up now and will have admirers again.
Bet: Star Cherie to win, exacta 2 to beat 1
RACE 3
Bullet Hero, as his trainer Mark Newnham told us, is a big, on-pacer who is one-paced but at least he is on-paced on speed rather than out the back and doing nothing. He kept to the task quite willingly first-up over 1350m on Wyong so the mile on the bigger circuit today is tailor-made. Grey mare Diorissima always seems to find the line with gust. The daughter of US multiple champion sire Tapit was true to that when she got home well first-up at Kembla over 1400m. Kouklara would have won in a few more strides at Wyong last start. Caribbean Stud is a market watch.
Bet: Bullet Hero to win, quinella 1,6
RACE 4
Carlisle Bay fans may disagree about the aforementioned Kouklara possibly beating him when they clashed at Wyong. Fair enough too, Carlisle Bay did have nearly a length in reserve on the other horse. Whatever the case, Carlisle Bay is racing at home today as a last start winner with Hugh Bowman on his back. Just Tozza may go to Newcastle tomorrow but is naturally a giant chance in this ‘easier’ race. Just A Brother races best here at home and is dropping down from a Grafton Guineas and a Saturday metro run (s). Go well.
Bet: Carlisle Bay to win, Just A Brother to place
RACE 5
All eyes, well most anyway, on Fayerra here with Winx’s jockey riding. This Anthony Cummings trained daughter of Magic Millions sale topper and handy horse Valentia has three thirds from her eight runs but bear in mind that one of them was in the Fernhill and she was also fourth in the Champagne and the Reisling! Went a bit better than it looks first-up on the Kensington. King Of Hearts is a Craig Carmody trained, James McDonald ridden son of Sebring who flashed up late from last to run to second at Kembla last start. Handy. Sabino is better than provincial grade but this is a strong race.
Bet: Fayerra to win, exacta 9 to beat 3
RACE 6
Sunborn is a class one horse on paper but she has run really well in some major races including a fifth to Prime Star (who is flying by the way) in the $2 million Inglis Millennium. The daughter of Anthony Cummings’s Casino Prince is trained locally by his son Edward who would be thrilled with gate 3 - and Kerrin McEvoy. Armatree has accepted for Newcastle tomorrow. Talented horse who is a chance at either venue off that return. Socrates will be better into this campaign and over longer but he has a touch of class. Bowman rides. Look for him to be charging late.
Bet: Sunborn each-way

RACE 7
Sirius Girl is as flashy as she is talented. All of her four trials have been indicative of a horse that will go to better races and Jay Ford has ridden her in two of them. Just has to contend with an awkward draw on debut. Lovero is a stunning and wholly typical daughter of Astern. She was never fully tested in her only trial. Russian Standard trials like a good horse but he is yet to bring it to race day albeit with hefty excuses for last time when missed the kick. Calaway Gal’s grandson Rogue Algorithm is the value, Journalism is the ‘obvious’.
Bet: Sirius Girl to win or, if scratched, Lovero to win, Rogue Algorithm to place
