Raceday focus: Best bets, analysis for Sandown on Wednesday
Jockey Craig Williams will only be in action for the first half of the meeting but he can get the job done for punters at Sandown on Wednesday.
Herald Sun form analyst Brad Waters runs the rule over Wednesday’s meeting at Sandown.
BEST BET
FARETTI (Race 4 No.2 – $4.60)
Led but no match for a smart type first-up. Will be much fitter for that and should prove much harder to run down this time.
NEXT BEST
STAR OF MANHATTAN (Race 5 No.5 – $6.50)
Tried hard when not disgraced at Ballarat first-up and won her maiden impressively second-up last time in. Will be harder to beat with the extra fitness at Sandown.
LAFARGUE (Race 8 No.10 – $3.60)
Put it all together when bolting in at Echuca last start. Lafargue steps up in class on Wednesday but he should measure up.
VALUE BET
LUMBER PUNK (Race 7 No.5 – $14)
The handy three-year-old broke through for a win third-up at Bendigo and will be fitter again. He’s an each-way chance at double-figure odds at Sandown on Wednesday.
THE JOCKEY
CRAIG WILLIAMS
Craig Williams only has rides in the first half of Wednesday’s meeting but he’s capable of posting a couple of winners at Sandown. MATSUKAZE (Race 1 No.5 – $2.50), TESTA ROCK (Race 2 No.6 – $11), SLICKBACK TEDDY (Race 3 No.8 – $6.50), FARETTI (Race 4 No.2 – $4.60).
THE WEEK AHEAD
A Kilmore meeting during the day precedes the night fixture at Pakenham on Thursday. The blockbuster William Reid Stakes meeting at The Valley will take centre stage on Friday night after a day meeting at Warrnambool. The Mornington Cup card will be the focus of Victorian racing on Saturday while Avoca and Healesville (picnic) also race.
