Raceday focus: Best bets, analysis for Bendigo on Tuesday
Jockey Ben Melham has burst back onto the scene in the last few days and his winning return to racing is set to continue at Bendigo on Tuesday.
Herald Sun form analyst Brad Waters runs the rule over Tuesday’s meeting at Bendigo.
BEST BET
KERMY (Race 6 No. 3 – $6)
Raced on the speed and fought on for second in an excellent form race at Ballarat. He’ll roll forward and should be hard to run down again.
NEXT BEST
CHAMPINSKY (Race 2 No. 5 – $5.50)
Champinsky resumed with a solid third at Pakenham at her first start for a year. She’ll be much fitter for that outing and should go close to breaking her maiden at Bendigo.
UPPER EAST SIDE (Race 7 No. 1 – $3.70)
Upper East Side powered home to score at Swan Hill last time out and his record at 1000m shows he’ll cope with the step up in class at Bendigo.
TOBAYSURE (Race 8 No. 4 – $2.20)
Tobaysure easily broke his maiden at Pakenham first-up and can go on with it and post a second straight win on Tuesday.
VALUE BET
EL SANTO (Race 5 No. 8 – $8)
El Santo closed well when not far away at Ballarat after solid effort at Werribee before that. He’s a good each-way chance in the first leg of the Bendigo quaddie.
THE JOCKEY
BEN MELHAM
Who else could it be? Melham has made an amazing return to racing with five wins in only seven rides. SHALAMAN (Race 1 No. 6 – $2.60), KEEPA RAJ (Race 4 No. 10 – $9), NORDIC SYMPHONY (Race 5 No. 3 – $6).
THE WEEK AHEAD
City racing returns to the Sandown Hillside track on Wednesday. Kyneton races during the day before a Pakenham night fixture on Thursday. A night meeting at The Valley follows the Ararat day card on Friday before the Group 1 Australian Guineas meeting takes centre stage at Flemington on Saturday. Wangaratta also races on Saturday. Colac and Sale will host Sunday’s Victorian TAB meetings.
