NEWCASTLE-BEAUMONT

BEST BET

Race 3, No.5: BONJOUR RUPERT

Came from a mile back to run third on debut then beat the others easily when he raced handier second-up at Muswellbrook. Goes well again.

NEXT BEST

Race 2, No.2: REMLAPS COMMANDER

Well-bred colt who stuck to his guns when runner-up in a Gosford maiden. The wide draw is perhaps a minor concern.

VALUE BET

Race 4, No.1: STAR MISSION

Has done some good things in her five starts and really caught the eye first-up at Gosford.

QUADDIE

Race 3: 5

Race 4: 1,6,13

Race 5: 6,9,11

Race 6: 4,5,14

Jockey Ashley Morgan looks hard to beat in the TAB Jockeys Challenge.

JOCKEY TO FOLLOW

Last season’s Champion New South Wales State Premiership winner, Ashley Morgan, could get across the line first in an open Jockeys Challenge.

MURWILLUMBAH

BEST BET

Race 3, No.13: SUMMIT SPECIAL

Kiwi-bred gelding from the Kris Lees camp who gets his chance to atone for some costly losses this campaign.

NEXT BEST

Race 6, No.4: BABAYKA

Always been handy but he has come back in great shape. Just needs to see out the 1200m now.

VALUE BET

Race 1, No.5: VERSOZA

Taking a punt on his trial where she finished off really well. Market will tell all.

THE INSIDE MAIL FOR NEWCASTLE-BEAUMONT

RACE 3

Bonjour Rupert is a Brett Cavanough-trained son of Winning Rupert whose current C.V reads as a barnstorming third on debut at Muswellbrook followed by a dominant on-pace win at Armidale. If indeed the horse is on an upward trajectory as it appears, he is surely the one to beat. That said, Gosford gelding Boss is a worthy rival given the ease of his first-up win at Port Macquarie. Johnny Dash, the half-brother to Spright, is on a hat-trick but has drawn wide this time.

Bet: Bonjour Rupert to win

RACE 4

Star Mission has done some good things in her five starts. In fact, she hasn’t done a bad thing in that time, posting a second and a third as her current personal best runs. The Peter Green-trained mare was warming up late when she finished fifth first-up. Fitter and down in class here. You would have probably expected Topender to have won a race by now but she has been a bit costly at times. Still, she looks good here third-up from a soft draw. Ditto the last bit for Ballistic Therapy.

Bet: Star Mission to win, exacta 1 to beat 13, quinella 1,13

RACE 5

Rise To It creates interest here on debut. The Maher/Eustace-trained gelding is a well-bred son of So You Think out of a Fastnet Rock mare and has trialled well to varying degrees, four times, dating back to May. Market the guide. Wild Irish Rover has run in four much stronger races than this, starting with his debut in the Inglis Nursery. Very fast, flying at the trials but has a troublesome alley to contend with. Burns To Embrace has plenty going to him, the barrier not one of them.

Bet: Rise To It to win

RACE 6

Volterra was famously sold for $1.3 million as a yearling but was picked up later in life by Clint Lundholm on the net for $27,500. The son of I Am Invincible has had four starts for the Dubbo master, winning his first one and last one. No reason why he can’t add another here on a track that should suit him. Stormy Pluck has only won twice in her 24 starts but she has placed seven times and more often than not, competitive in her races. Just needs a good speed up front and a fair track to the run-on horses. Ficsmm Dave has a great second-up record.

Bet: Volterra to win, Stormy Pluck each-way, box trifecta 4,5,12,14

THE INSIDE MAIL FOR MURWILLUMBAH

RACE 4

Door Into Summer is a Ballina-housed mare whose only prior visit to this venue resulted in an all-the-way over this same trip. For the record, the daughter of Real Impact has placed in her two subsequent runs so she is holding her form well this campaign. The barrier draw is against her however. Cabsav resumes in a suitable race bearing in mind that he has won first-up once in three fresh runs. Deep Mystique is the big watch here as a debut winner on the Gold Coast for an astute stable.

Bet: Door Into Summer to win

RACE 5

Capitalia is a daughter of the Golden Slipper winner Capitalist while her mother, Longoria, was a pretty handy mare in her day. This Matthew Dunn-trained filly has the advantage of kicking off at her home track and the trials have been good enough to indicate a bold showing. Wish I Had, a filly out Never Forget, is a Barry Lockwood runner who crosses the border after a sterling debut third at Ipswich on Melbourne Cup Day. Aquarius, the other Dunn runner, has claims.

Bet: Capitalia to win, quinella 9,12

Matthew Dunn trains Capitalia who can make a winning debut on her home track.

RACE 6

Babayka is a Brett Cavanough-trained gelding with a nice strike-rate of two wins and three seconds from his eight starts. The son of Japanese stallion Mikki Isle has plenty of speed which he put to good use last start when a comfortable all-the-way winner at Lismore. Quatum is a Matthew Dunn-trained local having his first run at home. Been consistent enough but costly enough too. Gerry Harvey’s NZ-bred gelding Our Calantha has won of his three starts so must go in.

Bet: Babayka to win, exacta 4 to beat 6

RACE 7

Bay Street has drawn wide here so has the option of trying his luck at Doomben on Wednesday. Go well no matter where he is. Kermantic does enough in his races, without winning, to draw a lot of punters in. Could reward the true believers who are prepared to stick. Gold Coast visitor Metzarro from the Kacy Fogden stable broke his maiden with a seven length win at Gatton two starts back. Battled away for fourth at Ballina last start.

Bet: Bay Street to win
