Race day focus: Best bets, inside mail for Warwick Farm

Highly promising galloper returning from a spell. Won two of three in debut prep and capable of bigger things.

JOCKEY TO FOLLOW

Multiple Group 1 winning rider, Brett Prebble, is set to try his luck in Sydney and Wednesday will be his first day in the saddle.

THE INSIDE MAIL FOR WARWICK FARM

RACE 1

The Englishman is back from a break with two trials under his belt after showing some promise in his only start. The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained galloper ran into subsequent Golden Rose placegetter Zou Tiger on debut, finishing second. 1400m first-up looks ideal. Rarely would an Englishman garner this much support in Australia, backed from $7.50 into $3.70 in early betting. Pure Hydrogen has claims after making up a stack of ground from last first up. Will be suited by the step up to 1400m. Huracanevo has claims after making up a stack of ground from last first-up. Another who will be suited by the step up to 1400m. Step Aside has been there to win at his first two starts but found one better. Can feature in the finish again. Moscow Night is better than what he showed first-up.

Bet: The Englishman to win.

RACE 2

Putting a line through Marelle‘s second-up performance. Nothing went right for the Chris Waller-trained mare when beating just one runner home at Randwick. She went within a whisker of breaking her maiden before that and certainly has the talent to bounce back. A win isn’t far away for Moonlight Grace. The Allan Kehoe-trained filly has been placed in five of her six starts and runner up at her past three. Coincidentally Maritima has also placed at five of six starts. Drawn well, she’s capable of giving jockey Brett Prebble an early winner in his move to Sydney.

Bet: Marelle to win.

RACE 3

Nickelback could prove a hit for Tommy Berry and Team Hawkes. The Nicconi gelding out of the mare Rock Style has been racing consistently this prep with a win and three placings in six starts. Wasn’t far away when finishing within a length of the winner in a fourth over 1500m at Kensington last time. Kobe Rocks won his only start at this track and trip last year, albeit on heavy ground. He’s got claims as does Hollywood North. The latter was a winner two back before getting too far back off a slow tempo last start at this venue. Optimo is first up over 1400m but has had a pair of trials to prepare.

Bet: Nickelback to win.

RACE 4

Claim The Crown will look to begin his Australian reign on a winning note. The Irish-bred galloper is having his first Australian start for Annabel Neasham with two quiet trials under his belt. Neasham elected in favour of the mile over 1400m earlier on the card. Claim The Crown has placed in stakes grade over the mile in Europe. Chenin is dropping back from stakes grade. The sister to Group 1 winner Shadow Hero was placed in four consecutive runs before getting thrown in the deep end. Despite not showing much fresh, Field Legend should be a sharp improver second up. Is a winner and two-time placegetter at this stage of his prep. Bowery Breeze would need to break an 18-month winning drought.

Bet: Claim The Crown to win.

RACE 5

Miss Lenorr has two wins and three placings from eight starts and has been racing in terrific form. After winning at Kembla Grange two starts ago, the Matthew Smith-trained galloper was a narrow second to Above And Beyond at Randwick last time. Joseph Pride has two runners – Elettrica and Anagain – and both have a hope. Elettrica raced without luck seven days ago while Anagain is ready to peak third up. Summerbeel will attract interest in her first run back from a lengthy spell.

Bet: Miss Lenorr to win.

RACE 6

Miss Fox is a 1000m specialist that will get back and flash home. The Adam Duggan-trained mare has four wins and two placings from six starts at the sprint trip. Was doing her best work late when second at this track and trip last month. Command Approved made the perfect start with new trainer Matthew Smith with a three and a quarter-length romp at Wyong first-up. A repeat of that display will have him in the finish. Goofy Mick jumps in grade after a strong win at Taree last time. A four-time winner over the trip. Mark Newnham’s pair, Zain’s Girl and Boomsong, can’t be discounted.

Bet: Miss Fox each way.

RACE 7

Think About It looks destined to tackle bigger things than this. The So You Think gelding won twice before placing in town in three first prep runs. Has been given a pair of trials in preparation for his return where he is drawn to get the gun run in barrier two. Recommendation showed similar promise on his debut campaign, winning twice. Has trialled well in the lead up to his return. Mission Value sticks at 1200m after winning at the trip first-up at Randwick.

Bet: Think About It to win.
