THE INSIDE MAIL FOR WARWICK FARM
RACE 1
Arctic Legend is a nice son of Frosted lining up for his second start. The Richard and Will Freedman-trained colt showed enough on debut to suggest he can break through here. He hit the line well to finish third on debut at Gosford over 1100m and looks suited by the step up to 1300m second-up. Mannequin has been well prepared for her debut with four trials to her name. Expecting a forward showing from her on debut. Impunity looks like a colt that will be suited over further in time but should be hitting the line strongly late.
Verdict: Arctic Legend to win
RACE 2
Decimus is also an acceptor at Canberra on Wednesday but can run a big race if Richard Litt stays in town. The son of Dundeel has performed well enough in two runs this preparation with a third at Canberra and fourth at Gosford. The key for him is stepping up to 1300m now third-up. Golden Queen led everywhere in the straight but the post last start at Warwick Farm. She will go forward from barrier 11 and take some running down again. If Shipshape can settle closer from the inside draw, he can finish a lot closer second-up.
Verdict: Decimus each way
RACE 3
Temple Of Artemis has come on a tour of Australia with some of his more high profile stablemates but can be the first of Joseph O‘Brien’s runners to salute this autumn. The Galileo gelding is only lightly-raced but holds a Sydney Cup nomination and has been competitive in stakes grade over in Europe. These European stayers often prove to be better than ours and it should be the case again here. Progressive gallopers Miracle Spin and Yarrawonga look to be the likely duo to fill the placings with both comings off seconds over staying trips last time.
Verdict: Temple Of Artemis to win
RACE 4
Cut On A Dime should enjoy a substantial drop in grade to win back at the midweeks. Bryce Heys tested the colt in the Randwick Guineas two starts ago where he finished a credible seventh before beating one runner up in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes. This is far easier and his class should see him easily overcome the outside draw. Union Gap is the query runner as the former Kiwi has his first Australian start. He‘s a winner over the mile across the ditch. Owen County is talented enough to be competitive on his best form but the jury is out how well he is going this prep.
Verdict: Cut On A Dime to win
RACE 5
Whatsin is great value for a horse that has only narrowly went down at this track over 1400m her past two runs. The Epaulette mare has finished close to talented gallopers Running Bear and Sanstoc in those close seconds and gets the chance to go one better here at the mile. Provided she gets clear running from barrier one, she can go close. Wealthofknowledge is chasing a hat-trick of wins after last saluting in Midway grade. She has to be one of the main contenders again. Charity Spirit only has one win in 20 starts but is getting closer with each start.
Verdict: Whatsin to win
RACE 6
Arbitration is a consistent daughter of Street Boss with three wins and four placings in 11 runs. The James Cummings-trained galloper produced a solid first-up third at Kensington and is a noted improver second-up where she‘s never missed the placings. Gets the good draw and J-Mac at a track she’s never been beaten. Audette is having her last tune up for the Provincial-Midway Championships Final. She’s two for two second-up and racing well. Rise Of The Masses was a Group 3 winner as a juvenile and could certainly surprise at odds.
Verdict: Arbitration to win
RACE 7
Rebel Shadow runs for the first time in 277 days at a track and trip he won over first-up last preparation. He‘s only lightly-raced and his trials indicate he’s ready for his return despite the long lay-off. The Rebel Dane gelding gets a perfect draw and can handle the conditions if it gets really heavy. Huesca is another returning from a long spell but has showed promise. The Not A Single Doubt gelding has won two of his four starts and has soft form. Martial Music comes right into the equation if the fourth emergency can get in the field.
Verdict: Rebel Shadow to win
RACE 8
Floating can return a winner in the last. The Matthew Smith-trained gelding gets conditions to suit first-up with a gun draw and form on rain affected going. Jockey Rachel King just needs to settle close enough to have the last crack at them. Strombus is third-up now and up to a suitable trip. The draw could be crucial in the big field and the conditions will be no worries. Bob‘s Your Uncle looks big odds for a horse that was doing his best work late to finish among the placings first-up at this track.
Verdict: Floating to win
