THE INSIDE MAIL FOR WARWICK FARM

RACE 1

Godolphin’s two-year-olds have been going super this preparation and they’ve got plenty of firepower with Roussillon and Stanislaus here. Both have race experience on several of their key rivals with Roussillon running OK in a Pierro Plate last time. The Exceed And Excel colt broke his maiden at his last visit to this track and trip. Stanislaus is still very green. His win at Hawkesbury had plenty of promise to it but he’s got a lot to learn. Cap Ferrat and Amazonian Lass have both trialled well in the lead up to their respective debuts.

Bet: Quinella 1-2.

RACE 2

Gago is a lightly-raced galloper that can get back to his best at Warwick Farm. The Chris Waller-trained gelding was placed at his first two starts at this track before he struggled around the tight turning Canterbury circuit last time. Sticking over the mile now, he’s the horse to beat. Magadan and Commando Jack finished alongside each other last start. Both look ready to make the step up from 1400m and should run well. Expecting improvement from Premierro as she steps up in trip.

Bet: Gago to win.

RACE 3

Powerful Peg has finished no worse than third in five runs this preparation with a pair of wins. The ultra-consistent filly looked the winner in her last start on the Kensington track her wide run told late. She gets the one gate this time and looks well placed to add another to win to the column. Jewellery was a strong at Kembla last start on January 31. Godolphin have given her a trial to get her up to the mark as she goes into this a month between runs. Miss Hellfire raced in stakes grade for most of her last preparation but should find this far easier and trials indicate she’s ready to produce a strong return.

Bet: Powerful Peg to win.

RACE 4

Trainer Mark Newnham has stakes ambitions for in-form mare Sanstoc and she can take another step towards those goals here. She was excellent first-up from a break when powering home behind the peaking Powerful Peg to win on the Kensington. The Tavistock mare boasts a perfect second-up record and can add to it here. Healthy Beauty has the talent to bounce back. She had legitimate excuses when awful in town last time. Arranmore was beaten fairly by Sanstoc last time but does some of her best racing at Warwick Farm.

Bet: Sanstoc to win.

RACE 5

Bon Vivant spent 285 days off the scene before returning this preparation and the Godolphin galloper has improved in each of his runs. The son of Golden Horn followed a third at Warwick Farm with a second last start on the Kensington course over 1550m. Up to a staying trip now, he will go better again. Tympanist only just missed here when coming from last to grab second at his previous start. A repeat of that display will have him in the finish. Western Front and Spaltet are stablemates that each won handy enough at Kembla last time. They can stay.

Bet: Bon Vivant to win.

RACE 6

Headwall is a speedy son of Dream Ahead that’s been quick to leave an impression on track. After winning his first two starts last prep, he returned from a break with a credible second over 1000m behind Distillate. That run should bring nicely in a race where he is drawn to take the shortest route home. Lascars was excellent through the line in the same first-up run as Headwall. The Godolphin gelding is certainly a danger off that performance while Allusionist follows the same form line. He’s one for the wider exotics.

Bet: Headwall to win, trifecta 3-4-6

RACE 7

It’s been close to a year since Gracilistyla last saluted but the Chris Waller-trained gelding has run well at both his starts this preparation. Third-up now and up to 1400m, the Medaglia D’oro four-year-old looks to find the right race to break his run of outs. Mission Value should get every chance to control things again from barrier two. He’s won two of his past four and will take some running down. Biscayne Bay is back from a 270-day break. A VRC Oaks placegetter, she will be getting warm late.

Bet: Gracilistyla to win.

RACE 8

Tara Jasmine has been backed from $15 into $5.50 since markets opened and looks like a worthy bet. The John Shelton-trained mare has been carrying big weights in the bush but gets in her with a more manageable 58kg after Reece Jones claim. She will get back from the draw and rattle home. Black Duke is now with his third trainer Con Karakatsanis and was unlucky not to finish closer than fifth last time. While he has only won two of 29 starts, he can run well again. Amortal has been racing OK without this prep but this isn’t a deep race.

Bet: Tara Jasmine to win.
