WARWICK FARM

BEST BET

Race 2, No.2: KING FRANKEL

He’s a horse on the way up and put up a good performance in town in a Saturday race last time and extra ground and a slightly drier track suits and he’s ready to win again.

NEXT BEST

Race 7, No.10: SHADOW DEVIL

He’s really knocking on the door here off two good performances at this track to kick off his latest preparation and he’s peaking now third-up.

VALUE BET

Race 1, No.4: AWESOME JOHN

He’s got a wide gate but will probably go back anyway and take a sit. He was most unlucky last start and with clear air he can let down strongly.

QUADDIE

Race 5: 1, 4, 7

Race 6: 3, 4, 5, 8

Race 7: 2, 10, 11

Race 8: 4, 8, 11

TRAINER TO WATCH

Brad Widdup looks to have placed Travelling Kate (race 4), The Poacher and Showtime Lady (race 7) and Short Shorts (race 8) well here.

JOCKEY TO WATCH

Josh Parr has been riding well of late and has been rewarded with good chances like Daytona, Money From The Sky and Mensa Missile.

THE INSIDE MAIL FOR WARWICK FARM

RACE 1

Golden Age will be much better for the race day experience on debut when fourth and does look better suited to 1400m now. He did get favours on debut though. He’s the best bred horse on the day here, by I Am Invincible out of First Seal, the horse who beat Winx more than once. Awesome John was luckless first-up at Kembla Grange when stuck behind slow horses before getting clear and flashing home. While on the Winx theme, he’s by Awesome Rock, a horse who ran well behind Winx in her second Cox Plate triumph. Shall we keep the theme going? Kazalark runs here after getting flushed wide on debut but still ran well. He’s by Vadamos who also ran behind Winx in that second Cox Plate.

Bet: Awesome John to win

RACE 2

King Frankel is going to jump odds on here and that’s probably fair enough after what he’s shown at his two Australian runs. He’s so well placed here with a top apprentice on to give him a winnable weight. Bacio Del Mist gets in with a very light weight and might be a touch over the odds but will need to run at her best to win and getting her toe into the ground only helps. Inuwashi will sit in behind them from a wide gate. He got smashed in the straight here two weeks ago before running on strongly.

Bet: Exacta 2, 5

RACE 3

Saturn Star did what Waterhouse/Bott horses do and led and toughed it out for a gritty win on debut at Rosehill. Look for him to try and do the same again and Tim Clark staying on is a huge positive. Cool Kap was beaten by a horse who has been going well and he’s an improver again on a better track. Daytona is a very promising horse and he’s a fighter which was evident last start when one came at him late and looked the winner before he responded to scone fairly comfortably in the end. He’s coming to town at the right time. Stablemate Chairman drops back in grade so is a better hope in what is a hot race. Most of these have claims.

Bet: Daytona each-way

RACE 4

Another hot race. Thousand Years has never run worse than third from five runs to date and she hasn’t been asked to do too much at the trials and going to 1600m fresh should be seen as a positive given her preparation so far. Pharoah’s Reign only is in fine form and only got beat by a fair horse last time here and is on a quicker back up now. It’s hard to see Travelling Kate reversing the result against Pharoah’s Reign. Always On Show bolted in on a big track in town last start and will probably try to lead all the way again.

Bet: Pharoah’s Reign to win

RACE 5

Money From The Sky won’t be missed in the yard. He’s a big boy and has been a work in progress while natural talent is carrying him a long way and he got to a Group 2 race last time in. The spell has done him the world of good and he’s returned to be even better and won here two weeks ago and should go on with it. Redwood Shadow was super over a shorter trip last start and getting up to a mile is what he wants and a wet track isn’t an issue. Zakeriz won at Canterbury last start when easily defeating Pretty Amazing which should prove to be good form for a race like this and this horse should lead.

Bet: Money From The Sky to win

RACE 6

Vianello resumes from a good barrier and with a 3kg claimer engaged so it’s a good set up for a promising horse who has already won first-up. She will go to a better race than this but it’s a good starting point. If it’s heavy Washington Towers comes into this while Espirito deserves a crack at a race like this in town and they’ve figured out that he likes his runs spaced. Devils Triangle flies fresh and swims so the conditions are key. All three of Rejinsky’s wins have come first-up.

Bet: Vianello to win

Vianello can resume with win at Warwick Farm.
Vianello can resume with win at Warwick Farm.

RACE 7

Shadow Devil is knocking on the door and is now third-up and looking ready to win. He’s run well behind Everest horse Overpass in the past so a lack of talent won’t stop him. The Poacher stormed home from the rear for a soft win three weeks ago and has drawn better here with Hugh Bowman sticking. He just needs to avoid slow horses in the straight so his mount can let down like he did last start. More Sundays is a first-up specialist while Starman’s seventh placing last start can be forgotten after he wasn’t given the chance to finish it off with slow horses blocking him late.

Bet: Shadow Devil to win

RACE 8

Picarones has the talent to be winning here after Godolphin decided to bring her back to Sydney following good form in Victoria and she’s well placed here. Mensa Missile beat the super tough Two Big Fari three weeks ago and he should be leading or in the box seat and is primed for another big run third-up. Garmish looks overs here despite the horror draw. He’s got Tim Clark back on and he should ride him aggressively.

Bet: Garmish each-way.
