THE INSIDE MAIL FOR WAGGA
RACE 1
Chouilly has made the switch from Chris Waller to Tim Donnelly. The Sebring filly was unplaced in two runs in January including finish five and a half lengths off the winner at Gosford last time. She will be suited by the drop back into country grade and has been supported on debut for the new yard. Peak Contributor wasn’t far away when fourth at the Sapphire Coast last start over the mile. He should be fitter for that experience. Emmjay has placed in four of her 10 starts. The Donna Scott-trained mare stuck on well for second at Albury last time and is capable enough.
Bet: Chouilly to win.
RACE 2
Stand In Line is a lightly-raced son of Tivaci lining up for start three. The Danielle Seib-trained was only beaten a length last time at Goulburn when second to Aspired over six furlongs. The 1300m should be right up his alley off, now third up from a break. Sebastian’s Flyer has looked good without winning in both starts to date. The son of Spieth ran on from the back for second at the Sapphire Coast last start and can improve off the showing. Dolce Bella was a beaten favourite in the same event as Stand In Line last start but knuckled down late to grab third. She’s a nice enough filly and some second up improvement certainly wouldn’t surprise.
Bet: Stand In Line to win, quinella 1,2,5
RACE 3
Magnolia Belle finds a winnable maiden in her return from a break. After placing once in three runs in her debut preparation, the Mitch Beer-trained mare has trialled extremely well recently. Magnolia Belle beat her nearest rival by six lengths in a 1000m heat at Wagga and looks ready to win first up. Edging towards the odds-on quote with market support. Victorian trainers Leon And Troy Corstens will bring Hear Me Out across the border. The Capitalist filly has finished third in both runs but must overcome the unlucky barrier 13 here. Swift Enuff is a first starter whose recent trial indicates she has got a bit of ability, winning the hit out in some style.
Bet: Magnolia Belle to win.
RACE 4
Jack The Brumby has a credible record of two wins and 10 placings from 20 starts. His two wins have come at the mile and over 2000m so the 1800m should be right up his alley. Coriah Keatings’ 3kg claim gets him in well with 55kg where she should settle towards the front and be tough to catch. Costaway has finished second at three of his past four starts. Was runner up at this track and trip two starts ago and looks to be among the leading contenders again. King Charles wasn’t far away over the mile at the Sapphire Coast and should reap the benefits of Oliva Chalmers 3kg claim to ease his topweight of 59kg.
Bet: Jack The Brumby to win.
RACE 5
Trusting Marsabit won’t make the same mistake as last start at the Sapphire Coast. He missed the start by three lengths first up before tacking on the back and passing a few runners in the straight. A winner of the Country Classic over 2000m last spring, his best is good enough to win this provided he gets away okay. Two of Ruban Bleu’s five wins have come over 1400m. The seven-year-old is capable of bouncing back from a last start flop when favourite at this track and trip. Let’s Get Animal saves his best racing for Wagga with three wins and two placings in nine attempts at this track and trip. The question mark is on his first up form. May need the run in his first start back from a 227 day spell.
Bet: Marsabit to win.
RACE 6
Eastern Breeze is a 1000m specialist chasing a hat-trick of wins. The Peter Clancy-trained galloper has won at Gundagai and Albury last two and is racing really well. All six of her wins have come over the sprint trip. Namid led for most of her debut success and is drawn to be able to do the same from an excellent three gate. She can give her rivals something to catch. Royston Head is another that needs to make the step from maiden grade into a Benchmark 58. Expecting the Kym Davison-trained gelding to settle on the speed as well after winning over the same 1000m journey when breaking his maiden.
Bet: Eastern Breeze to win.
RACE 7
Punters will get a guide to the Albury Country Championships qualifier in the last. Kappy’s Angel comes in as the form mare with three victories in her past four runs. She demolished rivals by more than seven lengths two starts ago over the Wagga 1300m before winning again at the track. Unique Prince is ready to improve second up after a credible second over the same trip at Goulburn. The son of Shaft does his best racing on top of the ground and gets that on Thursday. Barrier 11 makes life more difficult for Our Last Cash. Donna Scott’s lightly-raced five-year-old is racing well and only needs to find some cover.
Bet: Kappy’s Angel to win.
