INSIDE MAIL - TAREE
RACE 1
Noci Do Cocco has placed three times in his five starts for Joseph Burges. On top of that he has three placings from four runs at Taree and one of them was a neck second to Bokeem which reads very well indeed for a race of the kind. Clemmie is a first starter out of Lohan who was runner-up to Decision Time in a Black Opal. Clemmie failed on debut (it happens), was tipped out, and starts again here. Trialled well before she first ran. Star Emblem and Bob’s Last One has claims.
Bet: Noci Di Cocco to win, Clemmie to place
RACE 2
Manhattan Baby has accepted for a much harder race at Moruya on Sunday. She is a filly on the up and should get every favour from barrier 4 with now regular rider Deanne Panya to pilot her. Don’tcha Think hasn’t put a foot wrong in his six starts, well, five of them anyway, but the point is, he is just too consistent to leave out. That, plus the fact that he ran second in a strong Class 1 last start. Calamity Fox’s single win so far came second-up and was at Gosford.
Bet: Manhattan Baby to win
RACE 3
Miss Cartel, a cleverly-named daughter of Escobar, is trained by Angela Davies which is a head start in life. Davies has a 24 per cent win strike rate, 52 per cent when placings are added. She is 28 per cent win with Andrew Gibbons and 26 per cent win at Taree. Miss Cartel ran really well on debut on March 4 and has trialled exceedingly well. Monopoly Girl, Sam Kavanagh’s mare, sent out some very good signs indeed first-up. Go well. Artie Ag Eitilt ran okay at Newcastle and you would imagine is better for the whole experience.
Bet: Miss Cartel to win, exacta 2 to beat 3
RACE 4
Stratum Chief was on a hat-trick of Taree wins when he last appeared here on August 1 and was denied but he was very brave in running second on the day. The Glen Milligan trained chestnut is something of a ‘high baller’, just as long as he doesn’t do it, he can keep rolling along. Echoes Of My Mind, one for the Glen Campbell and Paul Shailer fans alike, is a first-up winner who races well here at Taree, so well in fact that he is one for one at the track and trip. Bellzen is consistent to a fault. Discreet Lady might be the value.
Bet: Stratum Chief to win, quinella 2, 3
RACE 5
Fay’s Angels is a hundred times better than a Class 1 winner from 15 starts. As is so often the case with horses like her, it is her pattern that makes it hard to win. Few things to say; she was seventh of 12 in the Adrian Knox. She split two good ones at Newcastle on July 29 then ran a huge race in a Rosehill Highway. Fine Examples gives the impression that she wants 2000m. Her only win so far was here at Taree. Binkou has got the talent to win and probably wants this trip now too.
Bet: Fay’s Angels to win, Fine Example to place
RACE 6
More Than Discreet has lost 21 of his 22 starts but don’t be fooled. He has five placings and most importantly of all, he has never raced better and is absolutely building to a peak. Luke Thomas has found an ideal race for the gelding, keeping in mind that has two third from three goes at the track and trip. The other one here that is ready and able to hit their best stride is Devocean. Paul Shailer has found Aaron Bullock for the occasion and you can see by the son of Ocean Park’s two lead-ins that he is trending upwards. Miss Shalaa has some deep form.
Bet: More Than Discreet to win, Devocean to place
RACE 7
Miss Einstein has had her whole campaign, pretty much, dictated to by overly firm tracks and bad barriers. Don’t make the mistake to think she is not going well. You only have to look at her effort on the unfriendly Kensington track against the bias two starts ago. Barrier 3 and Aaron Bullock on Friday. You could make a watertight case that Agirlsbestfriend will appreciate dropping back from an 1800m Highway to 1400m and closer to home on Friday. She has won 3 from 6 at the trip remember. Ljungberg was very good in that Highway.
Bet: Miss Einstein to win, exact 2 to beat 5
RACE 8
Fire And Ice is a Mark Minervini-trained grandson of his bonny mare Vormista. This $80,000 Inglis Classic Yearling purchase has won $110,400 in just 14 starts and will add more to his tally and his bank balance. Drawn way out but has Bullock on which can only help. Omar is a is a fast horse, evidenced by that fact that his five career wins fall between 900m and 1000m. He is an eight-year-old now but he has won twice first-up albeit from nine returns. Lucky Sham is the big second-up improver here.
Bet: Fire And Ice to win
