THE INSIDE MAIL FOR ORANGE

RACE 1

Flying Trapeze has been living up to his name at the trials. He’s been airborne and if he brings that to the races, he will be winning. The son of multiple Group 1 winner Trapeze Artist led in his latest hit out and can settle near the front and prove tough to beat. Wallenda is by the same sire and has similarly been good at the trials. Without race experience, it’s tough to know exactly what he will do under race conditions but he’s looked the part. Ditto Champers Girl. The Bjorn Baker-trained filly has done everything right in the lead up to her debut and a forward showing wouldn’t surprise.

Verdict: Flying Trapeze to win

RACE 2

The one to beat here has to be Tamaroa. By Bryce Heys’ former star Spieth, he has only had the one trial but has been backed from $6.50 into $2.50 in early betting. That’s a smart move. Ferrari Girl should derive plenty of benefit from here debut at start two. Falreine was a close second when resuming at Wagga and was just pipped by Pyromania here two starts back. Forget her last run at Wagga when three-wide throughout.

Verdict: Tamaroa to win

RACE 3

Flashing Steel has been a proven second up performer in his short career. His only win from 11 starts came at this stage of his preparation last time in while he’s placed on another two occasions. The first up run at Kembla suggests he’s going well enough to win. Midori Fuji did enough first up and will be suited by the step up in ground. He won at the same stage of his prep last time too and looks the main danger. Adelinda is a consistent type that should be fit enough now and gets the gun draw.

Verdict: Flashing Steel to win

RACE 4

Montebello’s Charm looks the obvious pick in what is a maiden without a lot of depth. The Danny Williams-trained galloper has got back and finished off nicely at this first two runs this preparation and should do the same from barrier 10 here. He should be too strong late. Sonny Fella produced the best performance of his career last time and can feature around the money again. He gets the gun draw and his home track. Suomenlinna has placed in 10 of his 28 starts and is rarely far away in races like this.

Verdict: Montebello’s Charm to win

RACE 5

Chaotic Beauty looks juicy odds for a horse that returned in nice order at Wagga. The Kiss And Make Up mare made up good ground closest to the fence after settling near the back. She is stepping up to a mile second up but appreciates this sort of ground and can run a big race. Loose Love has found a couple better at his past two but is racing well at the mile. Mitchell Bell should have him right in the race again from a favourable gate. Not Too Bad has won with big weights before and the 2kg claim of Ronald Simpson gets him in with a more manageable 61kg. He’s not without a hope.

Verdict: Chaotic Beauty each way

RACE 6

Kattegat hasn’t won for a while but can change that here. He’s a former Godolphin sprinter that has continued to race consistently under Natalie Jarvis. The son of Medaglia d’Oro is coming off a decent second at Kembla last time against a nice horse in Troika. Morgenstern is a first up flyer, winning twice and placing on two occasions in four attempts. If his recent trial is anything to go by, he’s ready for another strong showing fresh. Washington Towers is suited to these sort of races. He gets the draw to settle close and feature in the finish again.

Verdict: Kattegat to win

RACE 7

The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained Mayfair Spirit is one horse that will be suited by the step up in trip after racing on speed and finishing fourth behind Silent Agenda at Kensington last time out. His inside draw will allow him to get similar treatment here. Ita steps up to an unfamiliar trip but continues to race competitively and is among the chances again. Imported gelding Marsabit should have finished closer to Beltoro in the Albury Cup last start. Should figure in the finish again.

Verdict: Mayfair Spirit to win.

RACE 8

Watch Me Rumble has been given a freshen up since finishing a credible fifth in a Country Championships qualifier last time. She has won four of her 15 stars and wouldn’t look out of place in a Highway race sometime soon. She is drawn awkward but class should take her a long way. How’s It Kev did it nicely winning at this venue last time. Barrier four should see him land in the perfect spot and be hard to beat. Almahero will find this easier than the city races he raced in last preparation.

Verdict: Watch Me Rumble
