THE INSIDE MAIL FOR LISMORE
RACE 1
Boulanger has placed at five of his eight starts, three of those are seconds, and one of them was two starts ago when he was beaten more or less by a nose. He got back and flew home at Grafton on July 9. Just hope the 1310m is far enough for him. Bendolirra led but was passed late when runner-up in a 1410m maiden also on July 9. Back in trip and the Lismore track layout are two big pluses. Icon of Style was close to Boulanger last start.
Bet: Boulanger to win, quinella 1, 4
RACE 2
Iobject has a tidy C.V of eight starts for two wins and two seconds. You could easily argue that he has long been in better races than this one. Exhibit A being last start where he ran an honourable fourth to Maximum Vortex on Ramornie Day. Drawn to win too. Stoinka is trained here at Lismore where he surely races best. Dubai Nights sent out some encouraging signs at the first run for the new stable.
Bet: Iobject to win
RACE 3
I Am Good At This would almost have to be the best bred horse racing at Lismore. Long story short, he is by I Am Invincible out of Jersey Lily. The Matthew Dunn-trained gelding has run in much better races than this one. It might only just come down to the wide alley and how good, or otherwise, these two debutants Bravezel and Watchguard are. Both are two-year-olds though; but both are trialling well. Controlled Kaos has claims.
Bet: I Am Good At This to win
RACE 4
Bowdarcie did some good things at his first preparation. For the record, the son of Eurozone raced four times for two third and also a pretty close-up fourth. All runs so far have been at Goulburn but he should go just as well, if not better if he is ridden close. Wolf Point is another Annabel Neasham-trained first starter who has trialled right up to the mark to be super competitive at the very least. Heavenly Scent and Beaudesert visitor Zumaia are in the mix.
Bet: Bowdarcie to win
RACE 5
Enterprise Success has three placings from his six starts, two of them are seconds. The John Shelton-trained gelding is well-equipped now to run 1526m and all things being equal, he should put himself into a very prominent spot in the run. Ditto that for his stablemate Enterprise Fuse has had the draw to be right there too. Her best two runs so far are at 1600m and 1550m. Spills turned in a P.B last start at Grafton. Stays under notice.
Bet: Enterprise Success each-way
RACE 6
Miss Boom Boom could challenge a previously mentioned horse as the blueblood of the meeting given that she is by Snitzel out of Miss Gunpowder. An Annabel Neasham-trained three-year-old filly, she has raced six times for a Ballina maiden win and three placings, two at Orange and one on the Beaumont. Long way off being a moral but she might be too good for them here. Chickerartie has won three races, one of them was here at Lismore which really suits her pattern. La Petite Missile and Allay have chances.
Bet: Miss Boom Boom to win, exacta 9 to beat 3
RACE 7
I’mtimmyzou is a Zoustar gelding who has been terrific this campaign. He string together back to back wins at Grafton and Ballina in April and May respectively and he’s been good in his subsequent three starts to varying degrees. Burdekin is another very reliable horse which is reflected in his record of two wins and seven placings from 18 starts. The significant points to make here are that he has won second-up, he has barrier one and 2kg off his back. Taikun Timmy is always value and sometimes runs well.
Bet: I’mtimmyzou to win, quinella 3, 4
RACE 8
Fullham is an intriguing mare in so far as she made her debut on June 24 despite the fact that she will turn six in 12 days time. What we ought to mention is that she won her debut; ostensibly leading in that 1000m maiden on the Gold Coast. Has to take the next step of course but is in good hands. Bean Groovy will feel a whole lot more comfortable in this sort of race than his last start at Eagle Farm. Huge watch on former Victorian raced, now Queensland resident Quick ‘N’ Dandy at her NSW debut.
Bet: Fullham to win
RACE 9
Showman has accepted for Doomben on Saturday which says a bit about how he must be going. On top here if he comes. Dragon Song is a Gold Coast-housed filly from the Michael Morrison stable. The daughter of Worthy Cause is third up into this and you could easily make the case that she should be on a hat-trick and that is with only two runs under her belt this time in. El Asteroid ran a huge race two starts ago at his so far only run at this track and trip. Enterprise Phoenix is on his way to a peak.
Bet: Showman to win or, if scratched, Dragon Song to win
