Race 7 No. 3: Shohei

The Michael, Wayne and John Hawkes-trained mare caught the eye with a fast finishing fourth in her recent barrier trial and can maintain her terrific fresh record.

NEXT BEST

Race 4 No. 1: Sweet Baby Boom

Scored back-to-back wins on the Kensington and at Canterbury before a second to Avebury here last start. Set to bounce back.

VALUE BET

Race 5 No. 7: Condrieu

May have found the 2200m a tad too far last start. Back to 1800m, drawn nicely and Zac Lloyd rides.

INSIDE MAIL - KENSINGTON

RACE 1

Gai’s Choice is a sister to former top sprinter and four-time Group 1 winner Trapeze Artist and a direct descendant of Phar Lap’s full sister, Raphis. She looks to have inherited some of the family’s talent with her all-the-way trial win at Hawkesbury on Oct 16. Drawn ideally. Betta Being Single is a daughter of Better Than Ready from the Tulloch Lodge stable who are going great guns with their two-year-olds. Trials have been okay. Asteride, a daughter of Astern from the Robert and Luke Price yard, was good winning her recent Kembla trial. Stablemate Petawawa is by Written Tycoon. She sat just behind Asteride in the trial before finishing a half head second.

Bet: Gai’s Choice to win

RACE 2

Vanquished was just behind the placegetters in his both runs in his first campaign behind General Salute and Kandinsky Abstract. Led all-the-way to win his Randwick trial by three lengths on Oct 6. Armed Forces was just over two lengths off Steparty when fifth in the Listed McKenzie Stakes at Moonee Valley before a third to Maharba at the same track on Sept 29. Also Gr2 placed at Doomben in the winter. Sly Boots was just pipped at Kembla last start before a spell. Was second to his stablemate Vanquished in his Randwick trial. Pajanti was a beaten favourite on debut when sixth at Wyong after being held up near the 400m. Raced on speed when third at Warwick Farm last start.

Bet: Vanquished to win

RACE 3

Golden Passport had his first run at 2400m when a neck fourth to Casual Connection and Izfallingdown at Warwick Farm on Oct 11. Was placed runner-up in both runs before that. Meets both horses better at the weights and drawn nicely. Chateaux Park came from well back with a run between horses and just had to be steadied near the 200m before finishing fifth in that same race. Casual Connection had the blinkers off and tracked Golden Passport before scoring narrowly. Speycaster is coming off a 2000m win at Hawkesbury. Up in grade bit extra distance looks suitable.

RACE 4

Sweet Baby Boom was beaten by a progressive mare in Avebury who was heavily backed over this track and distance last start. Prior to that, she won here over 1150m on Aug 23 before an all-the-way win over 1200m at Canterbury. Back slightly in grade and look hard to beat. Fairway Star had been trialling very well and kicked off her campaign with a stylish two length win from Osman at Hawkesbury over 1300m on Oct 8. Will even appreciate further. The Seven Seas has really hit her straps in recent starts with a couple of placings at Newcastle and Wyong before storming home for a big win at Newcastle last start. Will be strong late again.

Bet: Sweet Baby Boom to win

RACE 5

Condrieu is racing consistently and a drop back in trip can see her bounce back to the winners’ circle. She scored a smart win over 1850m at Newcastle back in August before stepping up to 2110m and battling away for a close third at Warwick Farm and then a fifth at Warwick Farm over 2200m. Drawn well and can give this a shake. Yet He Moves is another who drops back in trip after his narrow second to Speycaster over 2000m at Hawkesbury on Oct 8. Drawn gate 1 and just needs to get clear running from the bend. Stablemate Lyrical Gangster didn’t get clear running until late but hit the line well when fourth to Territory Express over 1600m at Newcastle last start. Suited stepping up to 1800m.

Bet: Condrieu each-way

RACE 6

Waikiki had no luck when ninth behind Fire Lane when resuming at Warwick Farm two weeks ago. After settling near last on the fence, she was held up for most of the straight and only got clear in the shadows of the post. She was only beaten two and a half lengths and should have been right in the finish. Gustosisimo started at $1.40 favourite and gave his supported no cause for concern with an all-the-way win by three lengths over 1100m at Hawkesbury first-up. Haws drawn out a little here. Fleetwood scored a first-up win last time in before chasing home Ozzmosis and Royal Tribute at Randwick second-up. Untested in his latest trial at Rosehill. Gold Dust is a promising filly and can run a bold race again.

Bet: Waikiki each-way

RACE 7

Shohei has two wins and a second from three first-up runs and can continue that excellent record here. Kicked off last campaign with a win over 1250m at Newcastle before a nose second to Foxy Frida in the Bendigo Gold Bracelet over 1400m. Closed strongly from last when fourth in her Rosehill trial on Oct 13. Shadows Of Love didn’t get a lot of room in the straight when fifth to Fire Lane first-up. Drawn well and is a second-up winner previously. Cloudland kicks off his campaign and does race very well fresh with two wins and a second. Trialling well and drawn ideally. Growl ran a nice race for fourth behind Silentsar first-up.
